This is a page dedicated to the poetry of Emily Brontë, as part of an exhibition at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM),  celebrating her bicentenary. During her lifetime, Emily Brontë’s poems were published under the name of Ellis Bell in a slim volume titled Poems by Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell. Published in 1846, it was a compilation of poems written by the Brontë sisters. It wasn’t until 1941 that we, as readers, were able to truly grasp the breadth of her work as a poet, as a result of the publication of The Complete Poems of Emily Jane Brontë, collected by C. W. Hatfield. 
This page is a small way of celebrating her poetry. After all, the only true way to appreciate her poems are by reading them out loud. The poems, in line with the title of our exhibition-The Nature of Being-gives us an intimate insight into Emily Brontë’s attempts at reconciling the physical body with the soul, the ephemeral life with the permanence of nature, and the flight of the mind inside a  stationary  body.
The poems have been read in English and most of them are accompanied by their Spanish translations. The translations are by Xandru Fernández taken from his book Emily Brontë: Poesia Completa published by Alba Editorial.
