Kamau Chege is the Director of Washington Commmunity Alliance https://wacommunityalliance.org/ a coalition founded to ensure that communities of color were counted in the 2020 Census. They brought together over 90 organizations and tribes across the state, led by and working in communities of color, and recruited over 700 Trusted Messengers. Through their shared processes, resources, and organizing model, they spoke to tens of thousands of people in Washington and got out the count. Their overall mission is to close the representation gap for people of color in elected office and to make the systemic changes we need for Black and Brown communities to share in the prosperity all of us build.

Dr. Stuart C. Aitken is June Burnett Chair and Distinguished Professor of Geography at San Diego State University. He is the founding director of the research center Youth, Environment, Society and Space (YESS). Stuart’s research interests include critical social theory, qualitative methods, film, children, families and communities. He has published 14 books and over 200 articles in academic journals as well as in various edited book collections and encyclopedias. Stuart is past co-editor of The Professional Geographer and Children’s Geographies. He has worked with the United Nations on child rights, labor and migration issues. Stuart’s research on children and youth encompasses work in Norway, Brazil, China, Chile, Ethiopia, Slovenia and Romania, as well as the USA, Canada and Scotland.

Malou Chavez is the Deputy Director at Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP)https://nwirp.org/ She graduated from UCLA where she co-founded the organization Improving Dreams, Equality, Access, and Success (IDEAS) and participated in the Academic Advancement Program and the 2004–05 Law Fellows Program. After receiving her J.D. from the Seattle University School of Law in 2010, she was named an Immigrant Justice Fellow at the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project. Chavez is now an immigration attorney helping the survivors of crime establish their lawful immigration status.
