The idea behind 'Ancestry' was to explore the stories from my family history, including my great, great grandfather: a black minister who married a white woman in Jamaica in 1880;  his son, the conservator of forestry on the island, who planted the trees that are now under threat from the extreme weather and flooding of the climate crisis; and the living and future children in our family, all framing the expression of themes of climate justice, dual heritage identity and generational healing.
 
The album was funded by Arts Council England and the MOBO fund of Help Musicians UK. I worked with producer Doug Cave, whose music features regularly on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Worldwide FM and has frequent rotation on Spotify's jazz/leftfield Playlists, as well as some of Bristol's finest new wave jazz musicians from Snazzback, No Go Stop and Cousin Kula. 

The sound was inspired by classic artists like Marvin Gaye, Carole King and Minnie Riperton as well as Robert Glasper-esque RnB and jazz, and contemporary artists like of Cleo Sol, Sault, Michael Kiwanuka and Jordan Rakei, as well as spoken word of Arlo Parks and Kae Tempest.

Leeds based alt-pop duo Lucky Iris return with their new single ‘blowing kisses’ (July 7th), taken from their eagerly awaited upcoming EP ‘maybe i'm too much’ (August 11th), their latest expression of lessons learnt in love and friendships. The new track ‘blowing kisses’ is written and produced by the duo, and mixed by Richard Wilkinson (Adele, Kaiser Chiefs) and mastered by Antony Ryan (Oh Wonder).

Composed of songwriting and production duo Maeve and Jasper - Lucky Iris make crunchy electronic pop music which is both catchy and emotional.

The duo released their eagerly anticipated EP “maybe i’m too much” in August 2023 written and produced by the pair, and mixed by Richard Wilkinson (Adele, Kaiser Chiefs) and mastered by Antony Ryan (Oh Wonder).
It was met with a wave of tastemaker hype, as well as a sync on Love Island. Before releasing a remixed version of the EP title track under the new name “maybe you are not enough”  landed a place on Spotify’s ultimate “Hyperpop” playlist. With support from BBC Radio 1, Radio X, BBC 6 Music and BBC Introducing. But a true highlight for the spurs fan duo was a feature on the Tottenham Hotspur website. 

Having supported the likes of Real Lies, Stealing Sheep, The Lottery Winners and Future Utopia, the band have graced stages across the country, including performances at The Great Escape 23’  the BBC Introducing Stage for Live at Leeds 23’. Their most recent live performance
saw them support the hyper-pop sensation Hannah Diamond alongside Lucy Tun and Jessica Winter.

After spending the start of the 2024 finishing new music the pair are set to release their upcoming EP “something to believe in” through the new and exciting collaboration label, Launchpad+ and EMI North which is certain to see the band take that next step in their career.
