23 is the first single of the new Lucky Iris era. The track is about the stress of getting older but somehow feeling younger than ever. A feeling which at times seems silly and all-consuming but it’s there all the same... Written and produced by the pair, mixed by Richard Wilkinson (Adele, Kaiser Chiefs) and mastered by Antony Ryan (Oh Wonder); ‘23’ is the mesh of the duo’s love for hyper-pop hooks and the quintessential age of British indie music. Supported by Help Musicians and released through Launchpad+.

Leeds alt-pop duo Lucky Iris have announced their new single ‘oh no (i guess i did it again)’, a defiant, pop punk open letter exposing the ugly reality of following the beautiful game for women and LGBTQIA+ supporters. 

Following the more downtempo, contemplative feel of previous single ‘23’; ‘oh no (i guess i did it again)’ pairs the pop punk empowerment of Avril Lavigne with snarling synth breakdowns reminiscent of Sleigh Bells in a three minute anthem that lays bare the difficulties that female and queer football fans face every day. Much of the accompanying video was shot at OOF Gallery located in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and with the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup fast approaching, lifelong Spurs fan Maeve needs you to know that whatever the result, ‘this is harder on me than on you.’

Here we are!

In these moments when everything goes fast, I thought of writing a series of "one minute songs", of which "Living in a Box" is the introduction.

The reason for this choice is related to communication, which, through socials, is turning towards a concept of "existing / not existing" through a fiction and a speed that are slowly leading us to the lack of superior connection, linked to sharing, to listening to ourselves and others and consequently: to Love.

Obviously the subject of the song is related to the quarantine period, in which everyone is forced to live, alone or with other people, at home.

The feeling is that of being closed in a box and the perception of this closure remains even once you go out.
A media and personal individualism is being created that is widening the distance between people. 
But let's not forget that we could take advantage of this time to evolve and improve ourselves and love for others.
Hatred only leads to destruction.
Love is the real revolution.

Lucky Iris - composed of songwriting and production duo Maeve and Jasper - make music to dance or cry to as they tread through lessons learnt in love and friendships. 

The duo released their eagerly anticipated EP “maybe i’m too much” in August 2023 written and produced by the pair, and mixed by Richard Wilkinson (Adele, Kaiser Chiefs) and mastered by Antony Ryan (Oh Wonder). 

It was met with a wave of tastemaker hype as well as a sync on Love Island and featured on the Tottenham Hotspur website. Before releasing a completely remixed version of the EP title track under the new name “maybe you are not enough” which saw the band land a place on Spotify’s ultimate “Hyperpop” playlist. With continued support from BBC Radio 1, Radio X, BBC 6 Music and BBC Introducing, the band show no signs of slowing down. 

Having supported the likes of Real Lies, Stealing Sheep, The Lottery Winners and Future Utopia, the band have graced stages across the country, including performances at The Great Escape 23’ and pisces to play the BBC Introducing Stage for Live at Leeds 23’. 

The duo spent the later end of 2023 working on their next project, slated for release spring 2024. Expect more melodic hooks and crunchy electronic soundscapes.
