Capturing the feeling of loneliness resulting from being in a relationship of unreciprocated affection, “Clouds and Chemicals” is song blending alternative and pop rock into track equal parts danceable and melancholy. The song’s chorus asks listeners in a similar bind if perhaps it’s better to walk away and find love worth holding onto. With anthemic vocals, rhythmic guitars, and a beat to sway to, this tale of young love wilting away is a relatable tale for all listeners in rocky relationships.

Leeds alt-pop duo Lucky Iris have announced their new single ‘oh no (i guess i did it again)’, a defiant, pop punk open letter exposing the ugly reality of following the beautiful game for women and LGBTQIA+ supporters. 

Following the more downtempo, contemplative feel of previous single ‘23’; ‘oh no (i guess i did it again)’ pairs the pop punk empowerment of Avril Lavigne with snarling synth breakdowns reminiscent of Sleigh Bells in a three minute anthem that lays bare the difficulties that female and queer football fans face every day. Much of the accompanying video was shot at OOF Gallery located in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and with the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup fast approaching, lifelong Spurs fan Maeve needs you to know that whatever the result, ‘this is harder on me than on you.’

our EP is out and we actually couldn’t be happier about it. we love this body of work. we love these songs. together they tell a story of our last year and a bit and our lessons in friendship and love and everything in between.

we wrote these tracks as music we wanted to hear and we just hope you enjoy them. so listen, put them on repeat, get them stuck in your head and misquote them in conversations with your friends.

While conventional wisdom suggests that "time heals all wounds," San Francisco-based artist julip daringly challenges this notion in her inaugural offering. In her electrifying debut single, "Ecothermic," julip unleashes a riveting pop-rock anthem that pays homage to contemporary indie luminaries like Alvvays, Phoebe Bridgers, and Clairo. She delves into the complexities of an emotional tether that persists, even as the details of a now-bitter love story have gradually faded from memory.

Drawing from her background in STEM education--with a focus on computer science--julip infuses her music with a unique blend of scientific references. This is the genesis of her choice to employ the term "ectothermic"--typically associated with the cold-blooded and temperature-fluctuating nature of reptiles and insects--to describe a former lover who displayed inconsistency and cruelty. With sly wit, julip conveys, "The fact you don't want to talk / Is really getting me off / I want to keep you burning / But you're so ectothermic." Despite her earnest attempts to reignite the flame, either in reality or in the recesses of her memory, it becomes undeniable that this person is resistant and has turned cold, making the healing process all the more arduous.

Originally conceived as a downtempo shoegaze song, "Ectothermic" masterfully balances the raw emotional intensity of its initial form with an irresistibly catchy, sing-along melody. This evolution positions the track as a captivating addition to the contemporary pop-rock and dream-pop landscape, destined to resonate with discerning listeners.
