“The concept for Filetofsoul music began in 1988 with a collection of music sent to the Library Of Congress for copyright entitled, “Filetofsoul: Music For The Mind’s Eye”….The first recordings were done on a Fostex 4 track cassette recorder. The birth of the mp3 file and the advancement of the internet allowed a much broader platform for marketing of independent music. The original platform for distribution paid indie artists 5 cents per listen and 25 cents per download. The audience was predominately international so I had the idea to write a series of instrumental pieces descriptive musically of the song title,-Impressionistic music. Adding songs to multiple genres across the platform of distribution resulted in the eclectic nature of the Filetofsoul music collection. The music contains a broad swath of talented musicians on a variety of tracks, each emulating the style of the specific piece. Filetofsoul had always been a recording project until 2007, at which point a live presentation was developed with a concert video. Initially, it was a challenge to interpret studio compositions with multiple overdubs into a live format. Ultimately, the ‘Filetofsoul Project’ performed over three hours of original music in a trio format. With Cary Roberts handling the electric guitar parts and Michael McNair on Drums and Percussion, the live performances along with a conceptual video on a projection screen exceeded all expectations. As part of the new breed of metal hailing from the Southeast, Orphan Wells derives its roots from the post metal eras, rock, funk and basically anything with a driving groove. The group constantly experiments with new tonal sounds and unorthodox approaches to structure. This method creates haunting nuances and climatic hooks and bridges. Orphan Wells is a culmination of some very different musical approaches; each being a separate brick in the foundation coming together to make a new, Orphan Wells' signature. Riding the momentum of open-air festivals where they shared the bill with such acts as Papa Roach, Lit, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Live, Everclear and Godsmack.
