MAGO TETO. HECTOR GUERRA (VIANA DO BOLO, 2-5-1977)

O Mago Teto é un dos magos máis veteranos e relevantes a pesar da súa xuventude. Habitual na televisión desde os seus comezos, goza de gran popularidade e recoñecemento. Ademais, falamos dun mago con espectáculos de rúa (como O Afiador) ou de gran formato para teatros (A Maxia da Santa Compaña) e todoterreos como o seus clásicos ʻTolemaxiasʼ e “Perto de Ti”.

Teto é un dos perfís máis completos e orixinais da maxia polo seu humor, personalidade e nivel técnico.

UN PASO A TRÁS NO TEMPO
1990 – Leo o meu primeiro libro de maxia.

 1992 – O día das Letras Galegas, debuto en público coa miña maxia no Instituto de Viana.

1995 – Escomezo os meus estudos de Enxeñeiro Técnico en Química Industrial en Lugo. Algún día espero acabalos (¡malo será!).

1996 – Este ano é o elixido para estrear o meu primeiro espectáculo: A Maxia dos Soños, unha hora de maxia onde intento darlle sentido os meus soños grazas o ilusionismo.

1997 -Un grupo de magos de Lugo formamos o Colectivo Máxico Waldemar co fin de potenciar a arte da maxia na cidade amurallada organizando ciclos de maxia como foi o «Mes da Maxia» dando como froito o festival Internacional «Lugo Máxico».

2004 – Nace «15 anos de Tolemaxias«, unha nova montaxe que me leva a percorrer toda Galicia co obxectivo de ilusionar, emocionar e facer soñar espertos ao público. Realizando máis de 500 actuacións.

2006 – Estrease a novo show chamado “Perto de Ti”. Un espectáculo de maxia de cerca. Pequenos obxectos que fan posibles grandes milagres: cartas que toman vida nas mans do mago, moedas que danzan entre os dedos, navallas que cambian de cor cunha soa mirada,… son algunhas das cousas que se poden presenciar nesta hora de maxia en estado puro.

2009 – O día 28 de febreiro estranse no Auditorio Municipal de Narón ( A Coruña) o espectáculo teatral «A Maxia da Santa Compaña». A Maxia da Santa Compaña é un espectáculo «máxico-teatral» de tipo familiar único en Galicia e no resto do estado español ó fusionar: teatro, maxia, danza, espectáculo de zancudos, artes plásticas e música en directo, cunha historia baseada na cultura, na mitoloxía e na tradición galega. E esta menestra de artes ten como obxectivo final a realización dun espectáculo entretido, divertido, estético, emotivo e, sobretodo, cheo de ilusión e de ilusións. Unha selección de actores e músicos destacados de Galicia cun icon en común, a xuventude, xúntanse nesta obra baixo a dirección de Jose Prieto e o Mago Teto.

2010 –  Seguindo coa idea de tematizar os meus espectáculos presento unha nova montaxe, esta vez un show de rua, chamado «O Afiador». Un espectáculo que xira en torno a unha roda de afiar dos anos 30 herdada dos meus ancestros. Miles de historias e aventuras doutros tempos son postas en escena coa axuda do ilusionismo empregando elementos típicos dos afiadores como son coitelos,tesoiras , navallas e paraugas.

2011 – En agosto regresamos os escearios cunha nova montaxe, neste caso tratase de “As Novas Tolemaxias do Mago Teto”

Despois de tres anos xogando con outras artes escénicas nos meus espectáculos, como a música en directo, o teatro, a danza… na “Maxia da Santa Compaña” e “O Afiador”, retorno a esencia do ilusionismo en estado puro cun espectáculo cheo de efectos novidosos tocando todas as disciplinas da maxia (dende efectos de maxia de cerca ata grandes ilusións, pasando polo mentalismo, a manipulación…) sempre acompañados de situacións absurdas e surrealistas cun toque canalla.

Early Days

Kofi, whose African name means ‘Fridays Child’, was born in Lambeth, South London the third youngest of six children. With her church of God upbringing, and with the sound of everything from Ska, Reggae, Jazz and Soul emanating from the family home, Simms natural love of music was enhanced, and after a brief flirtation with acting during which she attended drama school, her urge to make music began to dominate.

Musical Career

Kofi first found success as a member of the lovers rock trio Brown Sugar (which also featured Caron Wheeler and Pauline Catlin). The trio enjoyed unprecedented success topping the UK reggae charts on three occasions. 

Following the demise of Brown Sugar in the mid-1980’s, Kofi embarked on a solo career, initially with Mad Professor, releasing three albums on his Ariwa Sound label. She had hits on the British reggae charts with reworking of Brown Sugar songs such as "I Am So Proud", "I'm In Love With a Dreadlocks" and “Black Pride”, with new songs such as "Looking Over Love", “Didn’t I”, and with a version of Alton Ellis' "I'm Still in Love with You", a duet with John McLean. "Proud of Mandela", a version of The Impressions' "I'm So Proud", a collaboration with Macka B, topped the British reggae charts in 1990.

Kofi had been asked on many occasions to crossover into the Soul/RnB market and she began to pen some of her own work directly aimed at that genre of music. The opportunity arose through association with Jazzie B of the Soul II Soul phenomena. Motown Records had engaged Jazzie B to establish a subsidiary label ‘Funky Dreds’ to which he was to find and sign artistes of the highest calibre in the UK - Kofi was signed to the new ‘Funky Dred’ label and featured on the 1992 “Soul II Soul Volume 3 – Just Right” album.

During her time with ‘Motown’ Kofi was commissioned to work for a mammoth musical project put together by Disney/Buena Vista. The ‘Mad About The Mouse’ project was a musical tribute to the company’s many successful movies over the years and as such they marked the occasion by featuring many top rated artistes to each take a very famous song from one of their beloved movies and perform it in their own unique style. This included LL Cool J, Gypsy Kings, Michael Bolton and The Cars, but to name a few. Kofi’s contribution to the project was her rendition of “Kiss The Girl” from the film ‘Little Mermaid’.

In 2008 Kofi began working with producers Mafia & Fluxy, and this saw the release of the album ‘Rocking Eternally’ as well as inclusion of songs on a number of compilation albums. The 2011 album ‘Kofi & Friends’ showcased Kofi in a more roots reggae mood and sharing the album with a number of very well established reggae artistes. 

In 2010 Kofi took up residency in Barbados performing various music styles to meet audience expectations at many hotels and locations around the island. 2012 saw her working with new producers, releasing a new EP 'Sweetness & Thanks' and a number of singles in various genres. The album Rocking Eternally was also re-released.

Kofi continues to be a dynamic and audience engaging live entertainer. Notable performances include performing as the closing act at The Giants of Lovers Rock event in 2012 and entertaining at her own special shows 'Intimate' and 'Kofi & Friends' in the UK. During 2013 she appeared alongside Sanchez, John Holt and Frankie Paul at the Barbados Reggae Festival also appearing at the St Lucia Jazz Festival. At the Leeds Carnival in 2015  she performed as one of the supporting acts for headliners Third World.

Jason Moon Bio

Jason Moon is a storyteller. His songs and performances make you feel like you are with a trusted friend reminiscing about the good old days. He invites you in, sits you down and makes you want to listen. Jason Moon is funny and wise, thoughtful and poetic, urgent and often heartbreaking. His gravelly voice is balanced by a unique flat picking guitar style evoking blues, folk and Americana genres. A winner of several awards and honors, Jason has been recognized for both his songwriting skills as well as his engaging performances.  An evening with Jason Moon is always engaging and entertaining.  

Jason Moon is also a veteran of the Iraq War, and the founder of the non-profit Warrior Songs, which brings healing to military veterans with PTSD through music and the creative arts.  Based in Chandler, AZ, his folk/Americana musical style has been compared to the likes of: John Prine, Jim Croce and Greg Brown.

Jason began his musical career as a teenager playing around campfires in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.  He later attended UW-Oshkosh and was a driving force behind the burgeoning Fox Valley music scene of the late ‘90s. During this time, Jason released his first album, Naked under All These Clothes, in 1998.  He also hosted several open mics, wrote dozens of songs, and played hundreds of shows until he deployed to Iraq in 2003.

In Iraq, he performed frequently for his fellow troops, but for over five years after his return in 2004 he was unable to finish more than a single song despite songwriting being his greatest joy in life, the war had taken this simple pleasure away from him as emotions cut too deep to take pen to paper.  During this dark time, Jason released an album of pre-war recordings called Poverty recorded in his home studio in 2006.

In 2010, Jason was interviewed for the documentary feature film On the Bridge (2011) and was asked to record one of his original songs for the film’s credit roll, an experience that energized him to finally begin to write songs again in earnest, and which ultimately led to the release of Trying to Find My Way Home (2011).  Trying is an “accidental concept album” based on Jason’s own war experiences and on his attempts after his homecoming to regain the man he was before he was deployed.

Based on the success of Trying in the veteran’s community, Jason founded the nonprofit, Warrior Songs, which seeks to heal veterans through music.  Warrior Songs helps veterans heal from the wounds of war by turning their stories into songs.  The first compilation If You Have to Ask… Warrior Songs Vol. 1 released in 2016. Women at War: Warrior Songs Vol. 2 is currently in production and is scheduled to be released November 2018. Jason also tours around the United States performing a musical/education performance titled, The 7 Things You Never Say to a Veteran.  

Jason’s most recent CD Love and Light (2014) is a departure from the weighty themes of Trying. Songs about love, family and reveling in life’s journey triumph throughout.  Love and Light was funded entirely by a Kickstarter campaign, which further enhances its good vibe quality.  Jason is back in the studio this year working on his next CD. 

Jason has been featured by multiple media outlets, most notably Associated Press, National Public Radio, Public Radio International. He was also the subject of a news segment for the music channel Fuse in May 2013.  He was awarded the Special Recognition Gold Medal in songwriting for the 2012 VA Creative Arts Competition in Boston, MA. He was recently awarded a WAMI for Best Singer/Songwriter in 2016.  His song “Trying to Find My Way Home” won the 2016 Global Peace Song Award.

Arriving onto the scene, and soon to the airwaves comes the young Latino sensation better known as Lench. Born and raised in Austin, Texas. One could assume this vibrant young artist, would be naturally inclined to the run of the mill southern style. However, Lench is anything but ordinary. From jump street, he made a decision to break from the norm. Opting for a genuine style, one that used heart and mind, to tell real life stories, over custom made production. At a time where so much is made of the "Penless" approach. Lench chooses to stay old school with a paper & pen, he says, " That's why they call it songwriting." BLACK JESUS EXPERIENCE is an 8-10 piece band playing an irresistibly danceable blend of traditional Ethiopian song and 21st Century groove. With backgrounds as diverse as the 5 continents the members of 'BJX' hail from, their music reflects the multicultural vibrancy of the band's hometown, Melbourne, Australia.

When not touring BJX run a weekly session at cultural hub The Horn where BJX create new songs live on stage. The comfort BJX has with this practice lies in the improvising traditions of that feed BJX including Hip Hop, Jazz, Azmari and Rutu Pa'u.

The music is also fed quite literally before each performance by the ritual of a group meal prepared by singer Enushu and MD Peter Harper in the Ethiopian tradition, "those who eat from the same plate will not betray each other". This inspires and reinforces bonds musical, social and spiritual, bonds BJX invite their audiences to join.

Enushu began entertaining her local community as a child in Addis Ababa. Forced to leave Ethiopia, Enushu migrated to Australia bringing hauntingly beautiful compositions inspired by her remarkable life story and the unique vocal traditions of Ethiopia. Enushu is joined on vocals by poetic giant and lyrical miracle The Monk, Zimbabwe born and Outback bred.

Highlights for BJX include two tours of "the Motherland" Ethiopia, performing sellout shows with Ethiojazz legend Mulatu Astatke in Europe and Australia (an association which won BJX and Mulatu "The Age Best Tour" award) Glastonbury, Big Chill, City Of London Festival, WOMADdelaide, the Big Day Out, Golden Plains and Melbourne International Jazz Festival and supporting Tony Allen among other great festivals.

ENUSHU TAYE (vocals)
Hailing from Ethiopia, Enushu was only a child when she began singing for her local community. In 1992 she was forced to take refuge in Cairo. In 1996 Enushu migrated to Australia bringing to Melbourne her hauntingly beautiful compositions inspired by her remarkable life story and the unique vocal traditions of Ethiopia. Enushu co-led the group GOJAM producing two acclaimed albums ‘World In A Jam’ and ‘Back On Earth’.

MR MONK (mc/vocal)
Of Zimbabwean/Australian heritage and known by his peers as the “lyrical miracle”, Mr Monk represents with solid flows and conscious word play. Whether with pen and paper or on the fly, he delivers his love message for Mama Africa loud and clear.

PETER HARPER (tenor saxophone, composer)
Harper has been a torch-bearer for the avant-garde on four continents, as an instrumentalist and as an inspirational composer, since the early 1980’s. His searingly powerful sound manifests his longtime dedication to the practice of overtone’s and musical studies under Ratu Pandji, and the great Evan Parker. He has performed and recorded worldwide with Musiikki Oy, Steve Lacy, House Arrest (Paul Grabowsky), The Australian Art Orchestra, Night Z, Something Else, Where’s Henry, The Big One, GOJAM and BLOW.

IAN DIXON (trumpet, flugelhorn, composer)
Extensive travel and study of birdsong informs Ian Dixon’s unique approach to improvisation and composition. Best known for his work as a trumpet player and composer on the global electronica scene, crossdiscipline collaborations have led to work in film and television, with visual artists, choreographers and in digital media. Recently returned to Australia after 15 years based in London, Ian has performed and recorded in diverse musical settings with performers including UTE, Guru, Kenny Garrett, Irmin Schmidt (CAN), Kumo, Max Romeo, Corker Conboy, Ape, No-Man, Night Z, Ramjac, DJ Blame, Dub Pistols, Musiikki Oy and with Bobby Singh as West Park.

HUE BLANES (keyboards)
Having traveled the globe in search of good wine, cheese and other guilty pleasures, Hue has found that it is all better in Melbourne than anywhere else. That is why, after extensive study and performance in New York (Jason Moran, Fred Hersch) and New Orleans, London, Vancouver and Paris, Hue (known as ‘Hue-age’ and ‘The Seagull’) is stealing chips here for a while, performing with Harry Angus, Paul Williamson, Pez, Illy, Rumberos, True Live and his own projects - The Melodics, The Hue Blanes Ensemble, and Electric Opera. 

CHRIS FRANGOU (electric bass)
Known for navigating a wide range of genres and textures on the electric bass touching on and being heavily influenced by music as far spread as jazz, funk, rock, balkan, hip-hop, east african music, blues, indian classical and middle eastern music. His diverse musical palate and experience on the electric bass has seen him composing and performing live and in the studio across the country for numerous Australian and international artists. Recently his 10 year career has taken him to refine his skills as an instrumentalist and composer through his music degree at Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE where he has had ongoing study under Melbourne bass player Christopher Hale and his recent trip to New York City where he studied under Matt Garrison (Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock), Jason Lindner, Felix Pastorius and Grammy nominated bass player Panagiotis Andreou (New York Gypsy All Stars, Gonzalo Grau Y La Clave Secreta).

ZHONU ‘NUI’ MOON aka FUTURE ROOTS (percussion)
The music played by Future Roots reflects a rich life journey that allows him to draw directly on his experiences and connections with diverse cultures and ways of life. From his upbringing in India by his Moroccan father and Australian mother to traveling across Asia, Africa the Middle East and Europe, from time spent in his ancestral homeland of North and West Africa to connecting with traditional and emerging cultures closer to home in the Australasian/Pacific region. His mentors include Rama Chrishna (Pondycherri School of Karnatic music), Pape Faye (National Ballet of Senegal), Cecil Carter (Nyabingi and Afro-Cuban rhythms, USA), Irie Ingram (Papua new Guinea and Cook Island rhythms). Performance highlights include appearances at festivals including Glastonbury, WOMADelaide, Garma Festival and Vancouver Folk Festival with artists such as Yothu Yindi, Horace Andy, Ganga Giri, Future Rootsand Afro Public Opinion Orchestra.

MATT HEAD (drums)

Thuso D. Mogotsi, professionally known as Jovislash is a South African Musician, Producer, Comedian, Radio Host & a Filmmaker based in Johannesburg. Growing up in both Alexandra and Soweto Township, Jovislash has released multiple hip hop mixtapes and singles under his co-founded record label Thumaka Music. Jovislash has also produced and directed documentaries under Thumaka Films. He is also a nominated radio host and frequently releases short comedy skits online.

cage always discussed the space between the notes-the place that is
neither sound nor silence but in suspension and waiting. In their search for a new sonic language-a language where sound no longer evolves on the horizontal, left to right plane of musical history but from foreground to background, outside to inside, sounding always on the threshold of disappearance-tamtam are also creating a new language of listening. one where the space between is filled with the listener's own experience.
