Matt Maguire is a singer/songwriter from Waterford, New York. He has a BA degree in Music Education from The College of Saint Rose in Albany NY, graduating in 2014.  Matt has had a passion for music since a very young age. He started taking piano lessons at four years old and picking up songs he heard from Church. In middle school Matt continued his music career, and won a composing contest in 7th grade. In addition, Matt participated in choirs throughout high school. 

Matt began his songwriting career writing music for piano. What started as simple yet pretty melodies and accompaniment, eventually turned into his first songs. His first CD was comprised solely of piano music. It was entitled “Playing Through Darkness”, and was released in 2013. More recently, Matt has been writing songs; adding and incorporating his voice in addition to using other instruments such as drums, bass, strings, and of course, piano. His next release was an EP entitled “Find Me Now” released in 2015 and features 5 all original tracks. “Find Me Now” sent Matt in a new musical direction by breaking into the pop genre. 

This new album, released in July of 2018, continues in the pop direction while incorporating many new sounds and influences. This is a full length 10 track LP. 

Matt’s musical talent stems from the diagnosis at five years old of a degenerative eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa. This disease takes away all peripheral vision in addition to any night vision. The disease is slowly progressing, and will eventually cause total blindness; there is currently no known cure. Because of this disease, music became a refuge and form of expression for Matt.  He learned at an early age that he had a keen sense for music and has taken full advantage of that fact. Writing music is his way to show others that he has been able to overcome many of the obstacles he has faced thus far in his life and career.
