A meaningless heart stilling neon cross on your drive home. A vicious fight on a smartphone.  A two am text that throws your heart into nightbloom. The regret and shame of petty need.  A too large moon set full and low and gold on the horizon, just between the buildings, sighing along the asphalt stretched prone before you. A dream that woke you with crying.  Ambient blue glow. Your hands unable to make a wrong move, stronger than they should be, doing things you never learned. Liquid kisses and dances made of small sure moves.


My Retinal Circus review:

Its like easy listening took a 10 strip and woke up in a field of poppies...or the sound of ancient trees arguing with an electric sky. If lenny kravitz and art garfunkel had a baby, it would probably delete this from its ipod, but don't let that confuse you, this isn't some death defying kiddie pool romp with glow sticks and amethyst wands...this is a journey we all must take in this lifetime or the next. When whales mate, they sing of forgotten worlds where music like this is always playing. Imagine the most beautiful music you have ever heard...now imagine a jumbled mix of everything else, this is in between those two extremes. Imagine your a frog, when all of a sudden a pristine yet raunchy guitar melody intermingles playfully with a brazenly stark yet optimistically cautious bass line... just as you are reasy to hop back in to your pond like a good little frog, a low key circus freak from Zurich begins to hammer out keyboard bleeps and squibs like some great destrier racing across the sahara in search of water or a nice burrito...and then it hits the rhythm like a ton of non-bricks... mirroring the precision nano alt-funk down tempo samba punk grooves the drummer Phil is laying down like a friggin machine who can do no wrong and whom instead of ones and zeroes uses 3s and 11s. (sorry Phil, its true) ...it sounds like horns underwater, (this is dangerous for horn players, do not try at home) or an origami canyon filled with apple sauce and deeply fried iphone apps. These guys jam like it was their job...which it is, albeit a very low paying one. This is the lucidly dreamlike ambient neo techno psychedelic fusion trance pop we've all been desiring, but without all the attitude and peacock based ego displays that destroyed the genre during the great music war of '41.

So take a cup of vegan goats milk and a warm cranberry bagel slathered in decidedly un-vegan almond cream cheese, get comfortable on your favorite chaise lounge and join in the groove hippo hungry zebra zone that started it all. Don't let the sound of unapologetic mirth dissuade you from the eargasmic anti jazz-noise that is Retinal Circus, make this day a turning point in your life. Lift up your eyes to the sky and scream out: YOU'RE DROPPING THE BALL!!!!

The English word wolf originated from the old Anglo-Saxon word wulf, meaning to tear. Wolves are sometimes used as an analogy for certain forms of despicable human behavior, and then manipulate and mislead their too-trusting followers thereafter by endless lies and deception. The Bible uses wolves as an analogy for those who prey upon God's "sheep." Beware Of Wolves Jesus Christ warned Believers to watch out for "wolves" - a warning that included a warning to the wolves themselves of the fate that awaits them if they don't repent of their evil. So in the here and now what practical advice can come from this? I can point outwardly at the many examples that this world gives of evil and plenty of examples of wolves’ that come in sheep’s clothing. However I tend to want to look inward. It is there where I can make a bigger difference.

The wrong roads or paths always seemed to be filled with dangers and pitfalls. There’s always a Big Bad Wolf out there looking for dinner. Those spiritual wolves feast on the souls of the lost land and everyone on the wrong path is lost, even if they know their final destination.

That free will is some good stuff boy… Right up until it’s time to face the consequences of a bad decision, a wrong path chosen. After being out there on the wrong road and not winding up dead for a long time makes us pretty savvy characters. We begin to learn where the pitfalls are and where the Big Bad Wolves are hiding.

But did you ever notice that just like in the children’s story of Little Red Riding Hood the wolves are always in disguise? We walk in blinded by not our innocence, but our foolishness. Often we desire so much the things to satisfy our flesh and mind that we overlook the obvious differences that wisdom shows us and danger hides behind. How often have we made a wrong turn in life only to think back in hindsight and realize we ignored all the signs? There always signs, we just have to be looking for them.

When we skip through life, or walk for us more mature travelers, with our head in the clouds, not giving any thoughts to the pitfalls and Big Bad Wolves, we’ll take the wrong turn every time. It is what we know of our Mighty Protector that changes the path we’re on, wherever it’s at, form wide, leading to death, to narrow and leading us home.

God is in the business of redemption. Even wrong choice after wrong choice, we can learn and use the experiences and change our lives from ignorance and shortcuts into wisdom and the right path. Whatever road we’ve chosen, however uncomfortable and ugly, can be transformed.

The road that leads to a mighty castle, to a place that grants wishes. A Being that transforms lives – saves souls, and He is no wizard. He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. That supernaturally lit road or path that God transforms from lost to found, from dust and wear to gems and light, calls us and lead us from the dark dangerous wilderness into His glorious Light.

When we get there, for the ones of us that choose His path, we’ll say with the same certainty, WE are finally home! "Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all of you, for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God which he obtained with the blood of his own Son. I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them." (Acts 20:26-30 RSV)
