"This is something about mining nostalgia & the space of how I've been listening to music over the last summer in Perth.  Like when you share the space of the car, facing the same way in the same direction, no eye contact but a moment of shared expression, seeing images pass, cue points of intrigue wandering out of frame haunted by what the last song anticipates. Becoming nostalgic for something as it happens in front of you.  I feel like music makes this kind of space. Maybe for me its a liminal space preceding memory, non-linear but not circular, reducing anachronistic distances, like transposing past emo angst against future heartbreak. Driving through Perth suburbs down the coast, sometimes trite corny cinematic but in its own way just great."

tripl0cate has invited local Boorloo DJ VOSS for episode two! Voss has always been drawn to music that evokes the natural environment. From afar, electronic music with its pure sheen and mathematical contouring seems to be the furthest away from the dirt, moisture and imperfection of nature. This mix attempts to cast the medium into the organic world. A writhing soup of textual ambient, dub and progressive house. Weaving a trail carved through the forest undergrowth, down past dribbling streams and into the club

tripl0cate Ep. 2 w/ VOSS

The third offering in our mix series is a live recording of Priori and Cousin's dj set at Sustain Release 2024. Recorded on the last morning between 6am and 1pm on what was meant to be an ambient stage, it featured everything a 3 day festival closing set should. Eclectic picks, strange and emotional sounds, dubious transitions and a few feigned endings. Massive thanks to all the dancers, the Sustain staff (Aurora, Ash and everybody else who put their blood, sweat and tears into this), the music makers, the birds, the stars.

"I’ve always been sensitive to my surroundings and the world is in a very vulnerable place at the moment. I felt I needed to express my true emotions through something a little bit different to a conventional DJ mix and also that just writing one song was not going to be enough.

It was almost like composing a score, the only difference being that the pictures were only in my head. My ambition was for the music to evoke a visual response in the listener rather than just an emotional one. To do that I took some audio snippets of real life current affairs scenarios that really struck a chord in me and then used my DJ instinct to think of a track/musical piece that would fit well to that particular scene. Sometimes when I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted I added my own music over existing music or did my own sound design to create my own sound effects and also wrote some original pieces in the moment. It was very important to me to create ultimate flow and I felt this could only have been achieved without having any beats supporting the music. I also didn't want to make it eclectic nor constant as I felt that would disrupt the listener’s focus emotionally. There is a strong dynamic range throughout similar to classical music and also some parts that are almost meditative and then in contrast some more intense moments.
