Palette Of Voices

The Cucumber Sum Mathernoon, Blunderbus Aftercoon, Cumberbun Master Spoon is a song that goes under many a name. Natt Brus was very indecisive naming the piece as he couldn't get his finger on the memories the song brought up in his mind. Water wires – hydrogen-bonded chains of associated water molecules, which have properties that are very different from bulk water – have been confirmed in theory for years but never actually seen. Petersen and his collaborators, through nonlinear sum-frequency vibrational spectroscopy, claim the first experimental observation of the dipolar oriented (electrically neutral) wire structure of water in nanoscale channels, including supported lipid bilayers, similar to aquaporins.

“I would call this the first real observation of a water wire,” Petersen said. “We’re not just seeing the oxygen [atoms], we see the protons, as well. It’s the first observation of the hydrogen bonding in a water wire.”

This work employs some of the methods Petersen’s lab used in work published last year, in which it reported the first observation of a chiral water superstructure surrounding a biomolecule (DNA).

I had been really wanting to make new music with Calebass. I have been making a lot of songs that lean more heavily toward hip hop the last couple years and felt like heading back toward the direction of my earlier years on SoundCloud. Luckily Calebass was willing and ready and the music flowed easily and steadily. Jon did an amazing job adding an element of jazz with his bass and Janine really awakened the psychedelic spirit and Age of Aquarius with her vocals. It was extra bonus to have both Sinfields participate in this song making this a real SC family affair. Lyrically, I was inspired by the children’s book, Ox-Cart Man, which I love, and all the felt mouse toys I recently made for my cat at my daughter’s request.
