Besides making lovely photographs and (sometimes) videos too, Suzy Hazelwood is a very gifted writer (short stories, prose, blogs, poetry). The words for her poem “New Skin” I found moving and very comforting and it’s a pleasure to hear Suzy reading. So I’m very grateful I could add music to ït. Thank you so much Suzy for your kindness. Method: Welcome, noise! Stumbling lisps, move in! This is exhuberant life, jumping to no beat! What a lapsus! What a hiatus! Respond to perfect, ever-rising smoothness with stuttering, circular imperfection ... and some very deep bass!
Narration: This is  a  reply to a still popular, heart-warming 'evergreen' by Donovan about an idealized, colonialist and/or theosophical interpretation of a past invented. 'Hail Atlantis' - and no rest for Roman arms?

on the cusp of human civilisation
the world was warming back to them
the air swirling with tiny combustibles
reversing the great oxidation event
of the paleoproterozoic era
which had created the double-bodied cells all life was made of

on the cusp of human civilisation
microscopic particles of plastic
became an integral part of every surviving organism
heralding the age of material consciousness
which was to dominate the barren rockface
for millenia to come

on the cusp of human civilisation
there were futile attempts to escape into space
to resettle atop the ever rising waters
to return to the caves their legends told of
to relearn slowness attention breathing
modesty kindness and ecological awareness

on the cusp of human civilisation
all of the arts flourished feverishly
like flowers blooming in emergency and stress
it must have been a joy to behold
yet it was largely ignored by human contemporaries
who indulged in self-pity and vulgar woe

on the cusp of human civilisation
the world was warming back to them
with all the gracious kindness of a mother
about to let her offspring move on
into the void of oblivion and nothingness
they had always longed for ever so dearly
