FUN TIME MIX 005 — UPS

Next up in the podcast is the fantastic producer Hyasynthe, delivering an hours mix filled to the brim with unreleased belters.

We first heard of him through some of his brilliant productions, yet he's just as good mixing tunes as he is making them.

    L’ouverture de ce live hors du commun ressemble à des musiciens qui arrivent peu à peu dans une salle et accordent leur instrument dans une douce cacophonie. La cadence se met en place placidement, avec un balancement atypique. La contrebasse dialogue avec un piano sauvage, sur un fond d’oiseaux synthétiques. 
Un groove solide rentre alors, dominé par l’impression d’un véritable batteur jazz et une basse agressive. La dimension que Juan crée dans le son permet à l’auditoire de faire marcher son imagination et de visualiser réellement ou surréellement l’espace dans lequel ces musiciens abstraits évoluent. Des accords de synthé expressifs s’ajoutent, d’une conception sonore remarquable. On se délecte ensuite d’un cachet très dub, contrastant avec des éléments micro robotiques. Véritable signature sonore de l’artiste, c’est un superbe solo de clavier Rhodes qui embarque plus tard, sur un contre-pied de basse incisive. On oscille alors entre textures très minimalistes, proches de l’ambiant d’un côté, et grooves entrainants de l’autre, avec toujours plus de surprises dans la recherche des sonorités : essaim d’abeilles électroniques, accords réglés au millimètre, piano abstrait et vibrato, glissades dans les tonalités parfois dissonantes. La répétition se termine en puissance avec une trompette, des rires, un dialogue guitare et basse, sur un gros groove micro swing. 
En fin de compte, on sent une aisance et une maitrise de chacun des éléments, un contrôle des paramètres qui dépasse l’entendement, et une conception sonore à couper le souffle. Minimadelic est fier de compter ce live d’une qualité rare parmi sa série de podcasts.

     The opening of this extraordinary live resembles musicians who gradually arrive in a room and tune their instrument in a sweet cacophony. The rhythm is set up placidly, with an atypical swing. The double bass is in conversation with a wild piano, on a background of synthetic birds. 
A solid groove then comes in, dominated by the impression of a real jazz drummer and an aggressive bass. The dimension that Juan creates in the sound allows the audience to use their imagination and to really or surreally visualize the space in which these abstract musicians evolve. Expressive synth chords are added, with a remarkable sound design. We then enjoy a very dubby style, contrasting with micro robotic elements. A true sound signature of the artist, it is a superb Rhodes keyboard solo that later embarks on a counterfoot of incisive bass. We oscillate between very minimalist textures close to ambient, on the one hand, and lively grooves on the other, with ever more surprises in the search for sounds: swarms of electronic bees, chords adjusted to the millimetre, abstract piano and vibrato, slides in the sometimes dissonant tonalities. The rehearsal ends in power with a trumpet, laughter, guitar and bass dialogue, on a big micro swing groove. 
In the end, you feel an ease and mastery of each of the elements, a control of the parameters that is beyond comprehension, and a breathtaking sound design. Minimadelic is proud to count this live of a rare quality among its podcast series.

This set is pretty dark, deep, and trippy - a reflection of my current mind set - yet there's a groove too. I hope you'll appreciate exploring this facet of my psyche as much as I do telling the story.

You can't see it because of the angle with which I took the shot, aiming down, but beyond those blocks is the sea.  To the left is the Mediterranean, to the right is the Atlantic Ocean.  No it's not Gibraltar, but a little bit further West. ... Actually I checked recently and it is further North more than West, I thought I was facing South when in fact I probably was facing the Atlantic ocean, which is why I suppose the waves were of a decent size where we were.
