Our resident Colo is bringing us his last selection of tunes for this special mix. Colo always delivers a unique blend of grooves, underground house and some minimal touch taking the listener on a journey of different colors. We hope you enjoy the first of many other mixes to come in our new series.

The 11th edition of our podcast comes from well-known Russian producer Matpri. Andrey Sorozhkin produces under many different aliases and he is a very solid stable in the minimal scene. His grooves are versatile and complex, always dancefloor-driven songs. We are happy to have him as a remixer for the upcoming FRAMED011 by Daniel Meister.

A curated series where we commission artists to make an hour long mix of whatever inspires them to experiment, produce, and what they listen to.

Something different on the Mesh mix series this month, next up,  Kiara Scuro. The London based duo present their warm up set that raised and set the bar for the evening, recorded live from Phonox, London on Sat 14 August as part of Max Coopers' 4 nights at Phonox Residency. 

With guest shows on World Wide FM and Balamii Radio where they've showcased their tastes for varying genres and sounds from across the globe, and invited guests like Gilles Peterson and Mehmet Aslan to join them. Kiara Scuro are quickly becoming familar faces in some of the worlds most infuential and coverted clubs and festivals. Thanks to Rose and Nadia for contributing to the series!

Mesh Series 019: Kiara Scuro

Gregorio Gunther Serasin alias Year Kü was born in Italy in 1996 from a loving and creative family. After some experiments on music production (from UK/dub to electronic music), he discovered a strong attraction to artists like Burial, Ricardo Villalobos and Cobblestone Jazz. Therefore he started a solo project more club-oriented, and after a while he met his partner in crime Fulvio Ruffert. There began a long-term collaboration to the point that they released an extended LP (“Helve LP”) on their own Unknown Label. So afterwards, he decided to drop some music as a completely unknown artist on platforms like Bandcamp and YouTube and his very first solo vinyl arrived in 2017—“Ichō EP” on brosh (shoutout Petar!). And COVID19 arrived in our lives! Ancient Greek word “Crisis” (κρίσις) means “Choosing” … so he decided to get his old studio back on track, and then everything joyfully started again! A lot of his tunes have been played worldwide from artists like Dewalta, Priku, Sublee, Rossko, Prichindel, Sepp, Nu Zau and more! The year has yet to end but many things are about to happen!
Yaar Kü opens his performance with organic field-recordings, and a muffled outside of the club atmosphere. Soon, a driving derboka marks the kick-off over glitchy noises. Ethereal vocals and festivals of percussion highlights abstract high energy pieces. The listener revels in complex and breaky progressive atmospheres in a seamless mixing. The mood grows darker and darker with dissonant chords joining the dance.
What appears to be Slavic vocal surprises the audience and reinforces the lush vibe. Afterwards, intricate basslines and synth variations lead to a peak time acid joint with indistinct vocals. Delicious psy hits punctuate the story, ride and crash cymbals have a high energy hybrid feel.
In the end a timeless dubby ambient track brings a proper finish to this eclectic and flawless performance… Enjoy the trip!

Russian-born Anastasia Vtorova makes music that is autobiographical in style, but also in name. The titles of @machinewoman's tracks reference things like her favourite bouncers ('Camile From OHM Makes Me Feel Loved’) as well as her least favourite genres ('I Want to Fuck Tech House'). The beats themselves bare the hallmarks of the different chapters of her life, from the industrial she was first exposed to growing up in a post-Soviet environment to the late-night eeriness of Salford where she lived before moving amongst the minimal rhythms of Berlin. All this came out most recently in her distinctly glitchy, mechanical sounds and abstractions for toucan sounds with Derek Muro late last year. 

This week's mix feels like a continuation of that, with spacious after-dark electronics, moody ambient and shadowy dub techno soundtracking a walk through a desolate network of abandoned warehouses. Ghoulish sounds lurk around every corner as the pace picks up, with the occasional ray of light, drip of water or hallucinatory synth pulling you ever further into her world. It's a fascinating place to be.

Nicolá Cruz is a master of meaningful engagement. Whether he's studying North African melodies or spiritual chants, he shows profound respect for a given sound's cultural context. This is evident across his entire discography. His earliest releases on Multi Culti and ZZK Records layerered traditional woodwinds and percussion with folktronica and tribal house, reflecting a holistic understanding of global rhythms. His more recent work takes an adventurous, polyglot approach to club music, with EPs on Highlife, Rhythm Section and Tra Tra Trax exploring breaks, acid and other spirally sounds. But even his deep, drum-heavy techno cuts feel unusually organic, vibrant polyrhythms bursting with character.

For his RA Podcast, the Ecuador-based producer shows off his rave education. This display of futuristic chuggers and electro—Marcela Dias Sindaco's "A Flor Da Pele" is a particular highlight—speaks to Cruz's deep appreciation for body music. He treats dance floor jams with the same nuance as culturally significant sounds, a testament to his versatility, knowledge and experience. Journeying across acid basslines and dubby electronics, the 73 minute-long ride flirts with psychedelia, distortion and experimental bleeps, with many of the selections reflecting his own taste for colorful patterns. It's energetic and warm, flush with life, until the very end.
