Steven Black was born in Kingston 17 Jamaica. 
At the age of 12 young Steven was motivated to DJ after hearing his cousin “Simple Simon”, an artist,   tapping on their grandfather’s car to make rid-dims and chant over them.  Growing up in the 80’s and 90’s he listened to Bounty Killer, whom he considered his favorite artist.
	In summer of July 2000, Steven migrated to Toronto, Canada.  While experiencing the ‘real’ hardship of Kingston 17 life, Steven’s transition to life in Canada was somewhat easy considering the opportunities he saw for his flourishing musical talent.
In 2001 after crafting his skills, “Culture Blacks” was born.  He recorded his first song “Dem nuh like we” which encouraged him to continue his recordings and build his confidence.
In 2005 Culture Blacks did his first stage show “ The Real Kings of Dancehall Part 1” and “Part 2”,  where he shared the stage with icons like I-Wayne, Charlie Chaplin, Jah Mason, Bascom X, i-octane . Following this performance was his performance at Toronto’s Jamaica Day.
By 2007, a now matured Steven, decided to move from the name Culture Blacks to “Action Blaxxs”.  The name ‘Action’ speaks for itself; and ‘Blaxxs’ referred to an original foundation, this is the year Action Blaxxs did his first major international hit called “Wine and move your waist” featuring Elephant Man.
With all the hype surrounding his music, he did not want to neglect his family in the process, so he found it necessary to focus his time on his family first (his true inspiration); this also gave him the time to meditate on the right direction to pursue his path.
Recently Action Blaxxs linked up with Toronto producer Dada Supreme, and Heart to Heart Records.  They released his new single “Hustle Everyday” which is gaining international radio play and also available on all leading digital platforms.

Since forming his first ensemble in 1989 featuring legendary bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Pheeroan akLaff, Rob Reddy has worked almost exclusively as a leader, with the exception of brief stints with Workman’s ensemble and Ronald Shannon Jackson’s Decoding Society.

He has released several critically acclaimed recordings of all original music on the Koch Jazz, Songlines, and Knitting Factory record labels and in 2006 launched his own Reddy Music label and released “A Hundred Jumping Devils”. The label's second release, “The Book of the Storm,” featured an all-star 19-piece ensemble performing the hour-long title piece, commissioned by NYSCA and the Jerome Foundation, at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center. 

“Bechet: Our Contemporary,” was released in September 2015. Reddy used Sidney Bechet’s original compositions as a point of departure to create this work, intertwining four Bechet compositions with four of his own. Reddy sees this project as an honest and respectful attempt at honoring Bechet’s place in history as a seriously forward-thinking, avant-garde artist of his time, while also putting his work into conversation with our own, present-day sociopolitical landscape.

Reddy’s current projects include “Where’s Marilyn?”, which is a 2015 New York State Council on the Arts Individual Artist commission. This piece delves into Reddy’s experiences growing up in Kings Park, a small Long Island town that supported one of the largest state psychiatric facilities for over 100 years, and explores themes of memory, community, and the politics of mental healthcare.

Reddy will return to the recording studio in July 2016 to record new music for his Citizen Quintet which features longtime collaborators John Carlson – trumpet, Brandon Ross – guitars, Dom Richards – double bass and Pheeroan akLaff – drums. This recording will be released in Fall 2016.

He is composing new music for his Bechet: Our Contemporary ensemble for which he received a 2015 Chamber Music America New Works Jazz Commission for. This new music will premiere in Fall 2016 and will be recorded live for release on his Reddy Music label.

Reddy is also undertaking his most ambitious work to date over the course of 2016. INTERRUPTION! is a live performance piece composed for a 14 piece ensemble with music by Reddy and libretto written and performed by saxophonist, composer, poet and visual artist Oliver Lake. The title and premise of the piece is taken from a sermon that the Reverend William Barber II gave on July 12, 2015, on the eve of NC NAACP vs McCrory trial in Winston-Salem. A suit that was brought by Reverend Barber, the League of Women Voters, a group of college students and the Department of Justice. When the United States Supreme Court struck down the Voting Rights Act of 1965 in 2013 (a 30+ year agenda of Justice Roberts), many states have created sweeping changes in election laws that have, and will continue to deny many Americans access to the voting booth. Reverend Barber took the podium and delivered a potent, political speech calling attention to deliberate attacks on the lives and votes of many Americans. The premise of Reverend Barber’s sermon comes from Isaiah 58: “Cry out loud, don’t hold back, interrupt the nation.” Barber exhorted the over 10,000 protesters gathered at the state capital, and those watching the news, to engage in “necessary interruption,” saying “The reality is…that the nation needs Interruption, particularly when liturgy or parliamentary procedures become a cover up for injustice.” Not limiting himself to voting rights, Barber called for interruption against police brutality, mass incarceration, capital punishment and even on behalf of the LGBTQ, Native, and immigrant communities. INTERRUPTION! is Reddy and Lake’s response to this powerful speech and their attempt to engage with its issues and form through their respective disciplines of jazz/contemporary composition and spoken word.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Christ's discourse with Nicodemus.

Nicodemus was afraid, or ashamed to be seen with Christ, therefore came in the night. When religion is out of fashion, there are many Nicodemites. But though he came by night, Jesus bid him welcome, and hereby taught us to encourage good beginnings, although weak. And though now he came by night, yet afterward he owned Christ publicly. He did not talk with Christ about state affairs, though he was a ruler, but about the concerns of his own soul and its salvation, and went at once to them.

Our Saviour spoke of the necessity and nature of regeneration or the new birth, and at once directed Nicodemus to the source of holiness of the heart. Birth is the beginning of life; to be born again, is to begin to live anew, as those who have lived much amiss, or to little purpose. We must have a new nature, new principles, new affections, new aims. By our first birth we were corrupt, shapen in sin; therefore we must be made new creatures. No stronger expression could have been chosen to signify a great and most remarkable change of state and character.

We must be entirely different from what we were before, as that which begins to be at any time, is not, and cannot be the same with that which was before. This new birth is from heaven, ch. 1:13, and its tendency is to heaven. It is a great change made in the heart of a sinner, by the power of the Holy Spirit. It means that something is done in us, and for us, which we cannot do for ourselves.

Something is wrong, whereby such a life begins as shall last for ever. We cannot otherwise expect any benefit by Christ; it is necessary to our happiness here and hereafter. What Christ speak, Nicodemus misunderstood, as if there had been no other way of regenerating and new-moulding an immortal soul, than by new-framing the body. But he acknowledged his ignorance, which shows a desire to be better informed. It is then further explained by the Lord Jesus. He shows the Author of this
blessed change.

It is not wrought by any wisdom or power of our own, but by the power of the blessed Spirit. We are shapen in iniquity, which makes it necessary that our nature be changed. We are not to marvel at this; for, when we consider the holiness of God, the depravity of our nature, and the happiness set before us, we shall not think it strange that so much stress is laid upon this. The regenerating work of the Holy Spirit is compared to water. It is also probable that Christ had reference to the ordinance of baptism.

Not that all those, and those only, that are baptized, are saved; but without that new birth which is wrought by the Spirit, and signified by baptism, none shall be subjects of the kingdom of heaven. The same word signifies both the wind and the Spirit. The wind bloweth where it listeth for us; God directs it. The Spirit sends his influences where, and when, on whom, and in what measure and degree, he pleases. Though the causes are hidden, the effects are
plain, when the soul is brought to mourn for sin, and to breathe after Christ.

Christ's stating of the doctrine and the necessity of regeneration, it should seem, made it not clearer to Nicodemus. Thus the things of the Spirit of God are foolishness to the natural man. Many think that cannot be proved, which they cannot believe. Christ's discourse of gospel truths, ver. #(11 to 13), shows the folly of those who make these things strange unto them; and it recommends us to search them out. Jesus Christ is every way able to reveal the will of God to us; for he came down from heaven, and yet is in heaven. We have here a notice of Christ's two distinct natures in one person, so that while he is the Son of man, yet he is in heaven. God is the HE THAT IS, and heaven is the dwelling-place of his holiness. The knowledge of this must be from above, and can be received by faith alone. Jesus Christ came to save us by healing us, as the children of
Israel, stung with fiery serpents, were cured and lived by looking up to the brazen serpent, Nu 21:6 to 9. In this observe the deadly and destructive nature of sin. Ask awakened consciences, ask damned sinners, they will tell you, that how charming soever the allurements of sin may be, at the last it bites like a serpent. See the powerful remedy against this fatal malady. Christ is plainly set forth to us in the gospel.

He whom we offended is our Peace, and the way of applying for a cure is by believing. If any so far slight either their disease by sin, or the method of cure by Christ, as not to receive Christ upon his own terms, their ruin is upon their own heads. He has said, Look and be saved, look and live; lift up the eyes of your faith to Christ crucified. And until we have grace to do this, we shall not be cured, but still are wounded with the stings of Satan, and in a dying state. Jesus Christ came to save us by pardoning us, that we might not die by the sentence of the law. Here is gospel, good news indeed. Here is God's love in giving his Son for the world. God so loved the world; so really, so richly. Behold and wonder, that the great God should love such a worthless world! Here, also, is the great gospel duty, to believe in Jesus Christ. God having given him to be our Prophet, Priest, and King, we must give up ourselves to be ruled, and taught, and saved by him. And here is the great gospel benefit, that whoever believes in Christ, shall not perish, but shall have everlasting life.

God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, and so saving it. It could not be saved, but through him; there is no salvation in any other. From all this is shown the happiness of true believers; he that believeth in Christ is not condemned. Though he has been a great sinner, yet he is not dealt with according to what his sins deserve. How great is the sin of unbelievers! God sent One to save us, that was dearest to himself; and shall he not be dearest to us? How great is the misery of unbelievers! they are condemned already; which speaks a certain condemnation; a present condemnation. The wrath of God now fastens upon them; and their own hearts condemn them. There is also a condemnation grounded on their former guilt; they are open to the law for all their sins; because they are not by faith interested in the gospel pardon. Unbelief is a sin against the remedy. It springs from the enmity of the heart of man to God, from love of sin in some form. Read also the doom of those that would not know Christ. Sinful works are works of darkness. The wicked world keep as far from this light as they can, lest their deeds should be reproved. Christ is hated, because sin is loved. If they had not hated saving knowledge, they would not sit down contentedly in condemning ignorance. On the other hand, renewed hearts bid this light welcome. A good man acts truly and sincerely in all he does. He desires to know what the will of God is, and to do it, though against his own worldly interest. A change in his whole character and conduct has taken place.

The love of God is shed abroad in his heart by the Holy Ghost, and is become the commanding principle of his actions. So long as he continues under a load of unforgiven guilt, there can be little else than slavish fear of God; but when his doubts are done away, when he sees the righteous ground whereon this forgiveness is built, he rests on it as his own,
and is united to God by unfeigned love. Our works are good when the will of God is the rule of them, and the glory of God the end of them; when they are done in his strength, and for his sake; to him, and not to men. Regeneration, or the new birth, is a subject to which the world is very averse; it is, however, the grand concern, in comparison with which every thing else is but trifling. What does it signify though we have food to eat in plenty, and variety of raiment to put on, if we are not born again? if after a few mornings and evenings spent in unthinking mirth, carnal pleasure, and riot, we die in our sins, and lie down in sorrow?

What does it signify though we are well able to act our parts in life, in every other respect, if at last we hear from the Supreme Judge, Depart from me, I know you not, ye workers of iniquity?

Born Anthony Michael Marsh in San Diego, California on October 18th, 1984. Ampsterdam was born into what he would later refer to as an instant dance with the devil. His father left his mother before he was born and Amp was forced to learn the ways of manhood from his two older half brothers, who were both very young members at the time of the infamous California originated street gang "The Crips". Rewinding back to his earlier childhood. Ampsterdam experience molestation at the hands of a family memeber followed by a brush with death at the age of 4, when he fell from a high rise apartment window and had to be airlifted to a local children's hospital. After regaining his consciousness hours later, Amp walked away with only a few bruises and minor lacerations. The fall should have been fatal. This is the first testament to his belief that a higher power is protecting him so he can fulfill a divine purpose of healing this world with his voice, But he wouldn't  understand how to help change the world, unless he endured the pain of the world. This meant that he would be raised by a neglectful parent. He would be bullied by people of every color for being mixed. His own family would despise his type of creation. He would be hated for his multicultural background, and envied for his ability to relate and empathize with the struggles of other cultures. From the beginning of life he would face discrimination and hatred for thing's he was unable to help. Amp was born, an ultimate victim of hate crimes, but this would mold him into the loving, persevering, and talented artist he would become. In 1994 after one of Ampsterdam's brothers was arrested in connection with a vandalism ring going around San Diego; the state of California gave his mother the option of moving the troubled child out of the state, or letting the state hold him in juvenile detention until the age of 18. Amp's mother chose to send his brother to Columbia, South Carolina to live with his grandparents. Amp's mom would later move them to South Carolina to live as well. Moving To the east coast was no better for Amp's family. It would only compound the already existing problems in there life with more malicious dilemma's. His brothers would both resume gang banging on there newly found gang curious turf. They would also continue having run ins with law enforcement. His mother would remain neglectful to them for sake of her own pleasures and pursuits. His father was still missing. As Amp grew up dealing with the culture shock and having to adjust to the racially tense southern stigma he was living under; he began to struggle with school as well. Amp began skipping school, because of constant bullying by his classmates. Being that he was from a lower class family; he didn't have the nice clothes, shoes, and other accessories that seemed to be so important to this Southern culture he was experiencing.   Ampsterdam began smoking in middle school and later doing drugs in highschool. From there his downward spiral would begin to gain speed. He found solace in hanging out and excessively smoking weed with his older neighborhood peers in the notorious Columbia, South Carolina's Route 48 neighborhood. During this time he also found another comfort to ease the pain of a life unraveled. When his middle to oldest brother Jermaine came home from prison and heard him singing an Usher song called "my way" alone in his bedroom, he offered to let Amp sing the chorus on a song he had written called "Hard Times". From there, 14 year old Amp went into a professional studio for the first time to record his brothers lyrics. The song was good! It gained him instant notoriety in his neighborhood. The little fame he experienced gave him a high greater than any drug he had ever taken. He was hooked. Music was now his love. From that day forward, music became his darling. Although, Even with his new found happiness in the wings; Amp never escaped the pressures of a neglectfully negative childhood. After meeting a new man, falling in love and giving birth to twin girls, Amp's mom  devoted her life to her new family like she never had to he and his brothers. Feeling like a man who was never a boy, Amp began to fight constant battles with his mother who was oblivious to his childhood struggles, which were now reflecting in his teenage years. By 15, Ampsterdam was kicked out of his mother and step fathers house to go live with his brother Jermaine and a cosine in an environment counter productive to a teenagers needs. Surrounded by heavy weed smoke, exotic dancers, sex, drugs, and alcohol; Amp was in a rebel teens heaven. As the years past, Ampsterdam repeated the 9th grade 3 times and by 17 decided to give up on school altogether. He dropped out of high school in 2002 in order to make more money to support himself in the street life he was thrust into. At the age of 20 Amp's then girlfriend gave birth to his son Cameron Anthony Marsh. Two years after they had his daughter Carmen Nicole. His kids instantly became his inspiration to fulfill his destiny to be one of the greatest recording artists in history. With his son and daughter here, he now had more reason to strive for greatness. His newest goal became giving them the life that he was never afforded. But, overtime Amp continued to struggle with life in general. He couldn't hold down a job, because his mind was always on music. No other line of work in the world, regardless of the pay off, could keep him from chasing his dreams to be star. Eventually he took his music on the road, going all over the country from Los Angles, Hollywood, and New York; to Las Vegas where he lived for a year, after separating from the mother of his two kids. After several years of coasting through cities and continuous denial by major record labels, Amp was now like his father. He was a rolling stone. He would go months upon months without seeing or speaking to his kids. He was becoming a horrible father just like his very own. Baring this title has been the hardest thing for him to take, but he knows if he is going to gain the world for his children, there must be great sacrifice. As a fan of the late Bruce Lee, Ampsterdam incorporated Lee's martial arts principle of never limiting yourself to one style into his music. Amp began to blend Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, Funk, Rock, and Mosh, creating a supreme style of music he calls "Super Music". After a face to face meeting with the Vice President of A&R at Def Jam Recordings Lenny "Lenny S" Santiago, Amp walked away with the praise that his music was extraordinary, but needed branding. He would have to get his fan base up and grow a bigger following. Today he is working harder than he ever to gain that following and to prove to the world that he is here to set his carbon footprint in platinum and enter the annuls of history as one of the greatest artist to ever impact the world in a positive way with his music. He is a member and founder of The White Flag Army, which is a peaceful movement of all walks of life that adorn the white flag of peace on their person in public to show that war is not necessary in the struggle for peace.
