This piece is our contribution to the New York Philharmonic's "New World Initiative", which collected artist responses to Dvorak's New World Symphony. 

This House of Mine considers the idea of "home", the ones we leave behind and the ones we recreate. The sparse beginning draws its harmonies mostly from the Largo section of Dvorak’s New World Symphony then moves onto a more hopeful second section that represents the new realities we weave, honoring the past while crafting hybrid realities. Here, we feature the folk song Janiman from Hayrik Muradian, coming from the region of Shadakh, near Van. 
Themes from the symphony work as the basis for the harmonic lines beneath the melody, which soon transform into more percussive harmonies—in the spirit of leaving things behind and moving forward with energy.
