“Sunday” was written as a personal response to the Sarah Everard case, and the study by UN Women UK unveiling how 97% of women between 18-24 have been sexually assaulted. All too often I see innocent women in my life falling victim to miseducation, claiming that we are to blame for being assaulted. No matter how tightly we clasp our keys to our fists, no matter how many layers we put between our bodies and the world, no matter how fast we walk, run, sprint home, no matter how many times we fake a phone call, or send a “be home soon” text, 

No matter what we do, it’s somehow all about what we didn’t do: and this dialogue has to be changed. 

Sunday is written as an ode to anyone who has ever been unfortunate enough to have endured the misfortune of anything like this in the hope to #ReclaimTheseStreets

Throughout the span of the pandemic we saw a massive psychological shift in not only our relationship with not only our home space; but also with the way we began to interact with the world: in a manner that we had never before fathomed. 

With the political climate of the world reaching new lows throughout the span 2020, as the world watched the tragedy of the Sarah Eveard case, the murder of George Floyd – not to mention the mental health pandemic we were collectively experiencing, as a result of Covid-19: forcing so many independent business’ to shut down due to lack of funds and government support, university students continuing to be charged over a 9k for the education they barley had access to; and countless losses experienced  by so many friends, families, lovers. Upon so many other things. 

As a reaction to this I wrote “What You Call Home”. The song speaks about the hardships of living in the current political climate as a young person by trying to get by in a world that fails to welcomes each and every one of us with open arms.

India Arkin was introduced to the world with a thunderous start, moving to the North-East to study Fine Art, Arkin was quickly signed to HMV’s first ever distribution deal with 1921 Records; putting her face on the page of Forbes, NME - as well naming her a National Album Day ambassador alongside the likes of Sam Ryder, Franz Ferdinand, and KSI. Cememting herself as one to watch from the beginning.

With influence from Wolf Alice, The Last Dinner Party and Radiohead she’s keen to blow the lid off any one sonic box. Now 24 years old, Arkin has taken the industry by a storm. With a rammed schedule over the last 12 months with her live band, she continues to establish her sound with support slots for Tom Grennan and The Feeling, and Daytime TV. Alongside this she has performed at festivals including Bingley Weekender, 100Above, and Spring Classic, and notably being a two time headliner at Rotterdam’s Left Of The Dial; naming her one their top 15 artists out of over 115 international acts, undoubtedly stating the beginning her international success.

Working with producer John Martindale (The Pale White, PigsX7) the music just keeps coming, with big promises for an extraordinary 2025. Announced as BBC Introducing “Top Tip Artists”, as well as being a repeated feature on Tom Robinsons Mixtape, you’ll be hearing lots more music from India this year. With multiple tours in the diary and full festival season ahead, Arkin is ready to grasp all that the next 12 months has to offer.
