Hello this is Shony of Orange Dots, I also run Recorded Psychic Readings. I want to tell you why this collection of songs is so special to me. Michael Mersereau of 18 frames per second and I go way way way back. He was there for me when my dad died in 97, he was there for me when I was homeless, and he happens to be one of the most creative and kind people I’ve ever known.

These 18 frames per second songs have been on my mind for 20+ years and I’m so glad that I get to introduce them to the world. I remember Mike playing me these 18fps songs while in his parents living room in 2001 and being blown away. For me, they nail the dark romanticism of the Bay Area as well as the LA sleaze of the early 2000s in a way that not many other groups were able to accomplish.

Bay Area one-man-band Orange Dots (Shony McDonnell), previously known for his Farfisa and Wurlitzer playing in the long running but now defunct San Francisco indie-pop outfit Magic Bullets, shows his love for both the jangle of the c86 movement and the melancholic singer songwriter genre on his latest album Deflated. Released on his own Bay Area based record label Recorded Psychic Readings.
