Withym Nacho

I was fascinated by Alexander Sparf's Swedish fipple flute samples on PianoBook, so created this to give it a little time in the forests of Sweden.

I also used the NFO Orchestra Swells (Dan Keen) and the Henson's Schimmel Alive piano by Michele Paciulli - which is very "tactile" in the upper end of the keyboard!

The Films That Never Were

Blast from the Past

This is version one of my end titles for a slasher movie that was created over Covid lockdown. Discordant, menacing and creepy – the music leaves no doubt about what happened at the end. 

This version was never used.

Slasher One

This is version two of my end titles for a slasher movie that was created over lockdown. Echoing the Blade Runner-esque visual style of the cinematography, this theme is filled with electronics sounds including a CS-80 – a popular choice for Vangelis soundtracks.

Slasher Two

This is version three of my end titles for a slasher movie that was created over lockdown. With joyfully bright orchestration and happy tonalities, it delivers a surreal contrast to the movies’ tragic ending.

This version was never used.

Slasher Three

Wentworth Woodhouse is a grand stately home in South Yorkshire. On a visit with my wife and two friends, as we explored the grounds, in a wooded area we found a large woodblock xylophone. In the pouring rain, on a simple mobile phone, we sampled the sounds of the blocks. These samples, used here, along with the majestic building and a rather out of tune piano I discovered inside, which I was able to play, inspired the music.

I was asked to write some music to be used for a time of reflection during a memorial service for those who had suffered the loss of a baby. 
I needed to ask this question... How do you encapsulate that feeling of loss and sadness, but also capture the wonder of what might have been and that feeling of love for one whose life was so brief?
