'Kerberos' is a hypnotic and driving cut, one that progresses and builds with precision and underlying menace. Its melodies intertwine from the first beat and it couldn't sum up the Systematic ethos better.

2015 saw Stephan Bodzin release his second full length, “Powers of Ten”, as well as a new single on DJ Tennis’ and Tale of Us’ taste making label Life and Death. The album is another magical piece of work that focuses on melody and rhythm, on fat bass and vivid sound design and is a truly captivating journey through the mind, music, body and soul of one of dance music’s truly modern greats. After its release, a great team of modern music makers was enlisted to remix tracks from it: Maceo Plex & Shall Ochin, Fur Coat, Extrawelt, long time musical sparring partner Marc Romboy, Pan-Pot, Max Cooper, Agents of Time, Dominik Eulberg and many more all contributed to what is an essential collection. With a remix of ‘Sleepless’, a Pan-Pot track from their latest album, Stephan Bodzin closed the latest chapter of 2015 in what has been an exhilarating musical journey in his capable and creative hands.

ANNA drops a triple dose of heat to mark her first EP on Drumcode.

ANNA first debuted on Drumcode with the irresistible groover ‘Portable Paradise’, which highlighted last year’s A-Sides Vol.7 and set up a busy year playing DC events in 2019. There was the memorable morning set at Space during WMC, two fiery gigs at Drumcode Festival and typically strong performances at the DC takeover at Resistance in Ibiza and Sonar. Fresh from her gargantuan collaboration with Kittin ‘Forever Ravers’, she steps up for a maiden EP on Adam Beyer’s flagship label.

‘Galactic Highways’ is propelled by an arresting peak-time riff and bombastic drums and was a storming addition to Beyer’s set at Drumcode Halloween recently. ‘Dimensions’ is the powerful brain scrambler, as a blistering wall of acid rubs shoulders with undulating bass notes for a dramatic finish. ‘Phase Two’ is a stirring, pad-laden beauty, driven by lustrous melody lines that cascade over the Brazilian’s punchy percussion.

Andrew Bowen & Dimitri Poumplidis, better known to the public as AnD, had accompanied REPITCH Recordings through its early stages of existence. Their two previous offerings for the Berlin-based label came respectively in 2012 and 2014, acting as cornerstones for Repitch, marking crucial points in the evolution and definition of its sound. It is only now, after a 6-year absence from the RR catalog, that the duo makes its return with ‘Beast Mode’, a five-tracker that shows no sign of giving way to softer or less energetic sounds. These are bangers: nothing more and nothing less than rave-ready, hard-thumping, bass-blasting club stompers. Ever championing of the hardest side of techno, AnD have prepared a pack of non-compromising menaces to quiet, capable of making the floor quake by means of pure, unadulterated four-to-the-floor thickness and synthetic stabbing power. This kind of attitude led them to form many kinships with similarly minded DJs and producers, the latest of which is hardcore maestro Alberto Guerrini AKA Gabber Eleganza, who turned ‘Emergency Procedures’ into an even harder affair, driving the mix into the red and turning the beat into a freakishly crippled juggernaut.

More unheard edits from Len Faki‘s personal vaults on this release, harking way back to the mid-'90s and their relentless, hard-hitting styles.
 
Chicago legend Robert Armani, also still hailed as one of the originators of hardstyle by many, makes an appearance on the A-side. And it‘s that characteristic, punishing kick sound, which is still present in the modern edit, carrying on the original‘s obtuse force albeit shrouded in a much more ominous and austere veil.
 
German IDM-duo Funkstörung well left their mark on the millennium’s last decade. Even with their side-project Musik Aus Strom that restricted itself to a series of forward-pointing, no-nonsense acid-techno albums. Len Faki picks out a track showcasing the raw and vital essence of that Acid Planet-time and molds it into a soaring, sizzling and well-balanced tool, tricky and perky at once.

the refusal to accept or comply with something is a mindset that is often sorely lacking in the 21st century. look at any form of art or expression and you will mostly see people trying to comply with what’s hot at the minute.

and then, on the other hand, there are people like rezystor, who has consciously always taken the road less travelled. be it because of his musical beginnings, which were spent in the middle of heavy metal- moshpits, or because of a constant sense that there are too many passing fads in the scene he now calls his home. no entrance into a music genre is easy, especially when one is committed to just doing what they want to do, but the cologne native has managed to carve a name for himself out of steel, with a unique brand of no- nonsense, bottom-heavy, thick, rolling techno.
