There we are : Two years have passed already again since the last single by Jazzanova,
"I Human".

"Never change a winning team" is the name of the formula for success with the current coup "Now There Is We". Once again Paul Randolph takes care of vocal business and wrote lyrics that are as uplifting as only he can provide. The outcome is a infectious hybrid of vocal house and soulful pop. When Randolph repeats the line "There was me, now there is we, I never go back..." at the climax of the song, you notice that he's not only celebrating a romantic triumph, but also the community spirit of a well-functioning band, well maybe even of a party in sheer harmony.

The trademark of the track though is the ultra deep bass line – along the sophisticated live drum programming – fitting every house-set perfectly. Therefore you get – that's how service orientated Sonar Kollektiv is – the instrumental version on the flipside of this illustrious 10inch of vinyl.

“Reunion”, the debut album by Alex Barck created quite a stir last year. Now two 12inch releases make sure that this stir is not fading away by any time soon. Two 12inches that include remixes by the current creme de la creme of electronic dance music production.

After Osunlade delivered already last year an outstanding rendition of the album track “Oh Africa” it’s now up to Amsterdam based producer and DJ Full Crate to get his hands on this declaration of love to a whole continent. Masterfully he accomplishes this endeavour while weaving Christine Salem’s voice along a twisted shuffle beat and drives the track to the next level by adding stabbing synth chords. Full contact!

On the flipside the enigmatic British production duo Mao take us by surprise with their reinterpretation of “Doubter”. All of a sudden Jonatan Bäckelie finds himself in a dripstone cave. The massive beat framework props the whole track from not being torn down by the never ending echoing vocals. It’s with this courageous proposition that Mao for once and all ensure to be one of the production teams to look out for in 2014.

For the digital release Barck ordered another two additional remixes. Ada (by now based in Hamburg and on Pampa Records) doesn’t even make a move to adapt the track for one of her infamous techno sets. She rather sets for a sound that is labelled now PBR&B or Alternative R&B. This woman is not only on a roll, she is highly involved to redefine electronic music. This remix is a testimonial letter.

In a similar way Tokyo based producer Phil Gerus is putting his head above the parapet. Up to now his productions and remixes were always to be found near the crate tagged chillwave. But now he takes a giant step towards the future. He acts like a goldsmith, cutting the vocals to its crystalline form to restructure them within a breathtaking arrangement spiked with samples. After the first collection of remixes from 2003 (Remixed, JCR040-2) now's the turn for Upside Down, some of dance music finest key figures' interpretations of selected Jazzanova tunes from the last eight years. And be assured, the line-up is as massive as the Berlin's quintet worldwide reputation. From fellow Berliner Henrik Schwarz, Ye:Solar and Âme to Atjazz and Mr. Scruff from the UK, Motor City Drum Ensemble from

Originally released with the album Of All The Things from 2008, Little Bird features the exceptional tonsils of José James. A singer who has worked with luminaries like Moodyman and Flying Lotus and is capable of bridging traditional jazz vocals with modern sounding club music. Alex Barck's rework of the song does not only do justice to the original but turns into a sure shot dancefloor smash with lots of peaks and emphasis. You will see the ladies go bezerk over this one, trust us!

Alex Barck is known for participating at as many parties as possible simultanously. Now he invites for the very first time in his career to his own and personal bash. To the island La Reunion in the Indian Ocean to be exact. That’s where he settled with his entire family for a whole year since last summer to complete his probably most ambitious work ever: His debut solo album. The fist guest to be received is Pete Josef from Bristol (one half of The White Lamp), who wrote the lyrics for “Re-Set” and lends his voice to it naturally. A voice that suits perfectly Barcks twisted but always highly accessible productions. As a DJ who lives for the dancefloor Barck comes up with a track that make your legs shake and - in the second part - your hands raise. To assign the talents of newcomer Hannes Fischer to do a remix is a clever move. The latest wunderkind of the Berlin techno/house scene has an impressive sensitiveness for nuances like only very few have nowadays. In his rework he squeezes the essence out of “Re- Set” and fills it rich in content into a flacon that spreads somehow the odor of lavender. Until the release of the album “Reunion” there will be further three 12″ coming out of the holiday residence Barck. Stay tuned! In the meantime there still will be DJing in selected locations, work for the project Prommer & Barck (a second album is in the making), A&R managing for Sonar Kollektiv and of course active support of Jazzanova.

On April, 20th the sixth Record Store Day will take place. Sonar Kollektiv has two very special goodies in store: There's the limited 300 copies 12inch of the Paskal & Urban Absolutes remix for Jazzanova's “That Night”. 

The other goodie is a reinterpretation of Terry Callier's “900 Miles” from 1968 by FETSUM. In honor of the soulfolk singer/songwriter, who sadly passed away in late 2012, the new stunning soul voice of Germany covers one of his all time favorite songs. A brave move which succeeded fairly and fittingly pays tribute to one of the most talentend musicians of our times.

Sonar Kollektiv A&R manager Alex Barck is also a huge fan of Terry Callier. After he recently has remixed FETSUM's “Letters From Damascus” so brilliantly it's a logical step to have him step in and turn FETSUM's cover into a club track. It's astonishing how Barck pushes the groove towards South America and still leaves air to breathe for FETSUM's voice .

Matt Karmil is less known as a remixer, but more as a versatile songwriter and producer. For instance he has produced Cee Lo Green, Neneh Cherry and Youssou n'dour. The fact that he now found some time to give an existing track his very personal note is Sonar Kollektiv's achievement and our luck. His delivery would even shine in the portfolio of, let's say DJ Shadow or Geoff Barrow. An outrageous attempt.
