I am a physicist specializing in acoustics and consult largely in recording studio acoustics. I am also a musician, songwriter, singer, keyboardist (piano really, but you know these days), arranger, producer and audio engineer. I am currently working on an album of material that has a twist (well, at least for me) because I'm going to use the old Alan Parsons Project notion of bringing in different singers to fit the material rather than singing it myself. First, however, I wish to introduce you to an artist who died recently, Bob McBroom who was one of the greatest guitar players I've ever known. This material was recorded back in the 1980's directly to two tracks using only four microphones of (alas) indifferent quality. I will be attempting master these songs later on and will use modern technological means to separate out Bob's guitar work as much as possible, but the laws of physics are pesky things and we'll see how far they allow me to go along this path. Bob McBroom was one of the finest people I've ever known, and I intend to do the most justice to him that is possible using today's technology. I look forward to hearing from those of you living in the ether, as your comments may lead me to get Bob the quality and listeners he deserves. Later on when I start adding my own stuff I also look forward to your critiques as they may be all that stands between me--and that worst nightmare of good recordings, self-deception/indulgence.
