Officially established in February 2009, Music Comes First Records has been slowly building its reputation as a home to some of the best underground acts Scotland has to offer. Founded by John McGhee and Jay McLeary as a way to push unsigned, yet very talented and exciting artists throughout Scotland, they believed they could suitably add to the already expanding scene throughout the UK.

The label has grown from strength to strength since its launch and has seen many artists pass through it ranks and go on to great things. Most notably, MCFR artist from the beginning, Madhat McGore, who for a time exceptionally pushed the boundaries of Scottish rap music. Jigz, who's debut album, Jigz On The Beat, recieved vast public acclaim, and Amy Hawthorn, who's debut single, Hungry For You, charted at number 1 on the iTunes jazz chart.

MCFR has also established great working relationships with promoters throughout Scotland and has seen their artists supporting the likes of Kid Ink, American Beat Boxing Legend Rahzel, & The Wu Tang Clan to a sold out 02 ABC in Glasgow. Supporting slots have also been provided for UK Heavyweight rappers Klashnekoff, K Koke, Devlin, Sway, Mic Righteous, SAS & MANY MORE.

With many releases to date MCFR continues to march through the obstacles for any independent record label and look to become a consistent provider of good quality music. To take the label even further, in 2014 John & Jay brought artist Madhat McGore on as a co owner of the label and a member of the MCFR management team. With a new vision for the years ahead MCFR stay committed to supporting artists/producers and giving a platform for their music to be heard.

Through a steady stream of productions filled with incredibly clever sample flips and deft production chops, he has won fans across the world, including Gilles Peterson (who included him on one of his Brownswood Bubblers albums), Lefto, Anthony Valadez, Jazzy Jeff, Questlove and countless others.
