Robert Jamel Charles was born in southern Trinidad and Tobago at the San Fernando general hospital. One of his fathers’ 16 children and one of two from his mother JahMel was raised in Bayshore also known as “Crown land”, Marabella one of San Fernandos’ rougher, gang affiliated communities. From as early as age five (5) Jah Mel has been singing and involved in the music industry, singing in school and at church whenever he got an opportunity. He has been the recipient of many awards and titles, winning a number of Calypso/Soca and SanFest competitions throughout his youth.  
After school he joined his cousins’ reggae band Imperial Council… Jah Mel gives much of the credit of his musical maturity to his cousin Zebulun, who took him under his wing and introduced him to the world of reggae/dancehall. This is where he transitioned from purely a Soca artist and fine-tuned his song writing ability. 
As time passed and popularity had grown JahMel got booked to perform at Makamillions’ Equilibrium dance, his first big solo break. A year and a half after amazing the crowd at Equilibrium an old time friend and top Soca artist Buffy set up a meeting with JahMel and Makamillion for a record deal. From that night JahMel didn’t return home for over a year and a half, such is the commitment to his art and passion.
After Four (4) years with Millionaire Family Jah Mel now has accomplished many amazing feats such as preforming with notable entertainers. He has also written for a number of reputable artists such as Pamputae, Buffy, Tameko Lee, and many more who enjoy rotation from the partnerships fostered by working with him. Tracks like ‘Oh Mama’ Featuring Lead Pipe and Saddis from Barbados, ‘The Way You Wine’ produced by ZigBoi Music, ‘You Alone’, were among some of the JahMels’ leading singles propelling him to his current position. 
JahMel over the years has matured as an artist and songwriter, this added to his exposure and experience within the entertainment industry he taught it was time to branch out a bit further. Still with Millionaire Family JahMel set out to pursue his career as a solo artist and businessman. Now preforming under the alias King Rilla he is the founder and CEO of Rilla Music Entertainment as well as a partner in RKKR Sound Company inc with Barbadian artist Fantom Dundeal. You can expect great things in the future from this promising singer, songwriter and businessman.
