Mira is that rare kind of DJ whose music can immediately transport you into her world - a midnight circus in Berlin, where time loses all definition and anything becomes possible. 

Born in East Germany to a renowned photographer and a classical musician, she began DJing in 1996 and quickly rose to prominence as part of the growing underground techno scene around Leipzig and Halle/Saale. Her dedication to her craft and natural talent swiftly paid off with a series of rapid successes, leading her to substantially shape the electronic music scene of Eastern Germany from that point on. 

In 2006, Mira moved to Berlin, Europe’s capital of electronic music, where she found her musical home at the legendary Bar25. Situated on the banks of the river Spree with parties that lasted into the middle of the week, Bar25 was the true embodiment of Berlin’s club scene in the 2000s. In the company of notable artists such as Nu, Acid Pauli, Feathered Sun and Christopher Schwarzwälder, a musical language was being formed that looked past the minimal trends of the time towards a more nuanced, organic musical language. 

It was from this here that Mira rose to fame throughout Europe and the world, as she suddenly became a defining representative of a distinctive sound that was going global. Deep and soulful whilst always maintaining a continuous, sensual groove, Mira’s sprawling, hypnotic sets became the soundtrack for many an endless night at Bar25, Kater Holzig and now, Kater Blau. 

The centrepiece of Mira’s residencies at these clubs has been her yearly birthday event ‘Katzen Tanzen auf’m Tisch’, which runs for three days straight every December. Curated by Mira from a selection of old friends and new faces, the series has hosted a multitude of  then-unknown artists who have now gone on to tour the globe. In 2020, Mira’s birthday series came in the form of a compilation for the first time, showcasing the spirit of her events over 43 original tracks. Also a year-round booker at Kater Blau and curator for the Kater-affiliated label Kiosk I.D., Mira’s fingerprints are all over the sound of the club.

In the studio, Mira often collaborates with her partner-in-crime Christopher Schwarzwälder, and the two of them have released a host of chart-topping singles. This partnership has since carried on to dancefloors globally, where their legendary back-to-back sets make for a perfect musical dialogue between the two artists, who share a deep understanding and love of sound.

Mira has been at the height of her game for the past twenty years, continuously shaping the sounds around her, and never ceasing to push inspiring new artists. As happy playing in a small underground club in East Germany in the 90s as she is playing to thousands of festival-goers at Burning Man - Mira is one of those artists of whom you can truly say that she’s doing it for the love of the music. 

Every time a new track by some undiscovered producer falls into her lap is a new moment to fall in love again with her craft, and spread that love with the tens of thousands who hear her play.

There's only one obvious thing in the sound of Neelix: Relentless forward boost. Exactly how this boost is generated is not obvious at all – which makes it catchy in the most subliminal way possible. The German artist playfully incorporates elements of Progressive Trance, Progressive House and Electro. However, the actual magic of Neelix happens somewhere inbetween those genres. For 10 years already this unique formula made him a crowd-pleaser at a great variety of dance events on all 5 continents, including monumental festivals like Electric Daisy Carnival, Tomorrowland or Boom.

It's 2005 when Neelix stirs a revolution. His album 'No Way To Leave' fulfills all the expectations of the dance floor – but it does so in the most unexpected way. Within no time, party goers refer to his highly dynamic hybrid style simply as 'Neelix sound'. It's the beginning of a stellar career that keeps building and building – just like a typical Neelix track itself. During the last decade, the music of Neelix has inspired a whole generation of producers, it can be found in the collections of countless DJ, in film productions, and in the catalogues of prestigious labels like for instance SpinTwist Records or Paul Oakenfold’s legendary Perfecto imprint.

Une invitation au désordre, voilà ce à quoi nous convie le duo ATOEM sur son premier album. En physique, l’entropie désigne le degré de désordre dans un système. Il y a d’ailleurs une loi qui dit que l’entropie de l’univers ne fait qu’augmenter, que l’ordre n’est que passager et que, tôt ou tard, le chaos adviendra. Gabriel et Antoine y voient une analogie avec leur musique qui part souvent d’une orchestration lisible pour finir dans une explosion de sons synthétiques et déstructurés. L’aventure commence à Rennes il y a une petite quinzaine d’années. Un passionné de sciences cherche un nouveau batteur pour son groupe de rock. Un étudiant passe par là et intègre le groupe qui devient un duo à mesure que le nombre de synthétiseurs et de machines augmentent dans leur instrumentarium. Avec seulement deux EPs, ATOEM est une des révélations des Trans Musicales en 2018 avant d’être repéré par le MaMA ou les Inouïs du Printemps de Bourges.

Au rayon des influences, il y a le duo néerlandais Weval avec lequel Gabriel et Antoine partagent le goût pour une techno qui ne mise pas tout sur la vitesse, mais sur l’harmonie et les textures. Il y a aussi Atom Heart Mother de Pink Floyd grâce auquel ils embarquent leurs synthés modulaires dans des expérimentations psychédéliques. À rebours de l’époque où le pied frappe fort sur la plupart des dancefloors, Antoine et Gabriel s’épanouissent dans une certaine lenteur. « Faire de la musique, c’est travailler avec le silence. » Certains morceaux peuvent descendre jusqu’à 85 BPM, un tempo naturel comme le battement du cœur, pour donner plus d’espace aux arrangements.

Dès le début d’« Entropy », ATOEM insu!e avec « Sinking Ocean » un esprit new wave avec cette basse électrique et les voix d’Antoine et Gabriel qui s’entremêlent sur un texte aux accents surréalistes. Avant d’enchaîner avec « Lost Work », plus nerveux et abrasif au beat lourd, proche de la tension de leurs lives, écho di"us des angoisses de l’époque. Une basse, mais aussi des arpèges de guitares et le son de vraies batteries qu’on retrouve sur « Mercury » et sur « Under the Void » où l’on perçoit qu’ATOEM a pris un grand plaisir à chercher l’équilibre entre synthétique et organique pour mieux a"oler nos sens. « Summer’s Grave » accélère la cadence pour une virée dans une rave au Royaume-Uni à la fin des années 80, dont l’énergie est le meilleur antidote à la paranoïa, avant de retrouver un forme de tendresse sur la ballade italo, « Ride On Time », et ses claviers rêveurs où les garçons s’aventurent à triturer les textes de l’écrivain Pablo Melchior à légers coups d’autotune. Sur « Entropy », ATOEM joue avec nos émotions en alternant les stridences et le crissement de « Mode Erase » et les caresses nostalgiques et wevaliennes de « Ghosts of the Past » avant d’arriver tranquillement sur « Dawn », pièce impressionniste composée à Naples, en regardant le soleil se lever derrière le Vésuve.

ATOEM mêle dans un même jaillissement l’art, l’histoire, la science, la science-fiction, la mythologie et aussi la politique. « Uprising » et sa techno lourde aux relents orientaux relevée de sirènes électroniques fait gronder la révolte. Pour Antoine et Gabriel, il était primordial de donner plus de sens à leur musique, de dépasser leur virtuosité de producteurs pour gagner en profondeur. « Les couleurs du son », poème écrit et interprété par NVVN, mélange les sens et les sons et nous perd dans un rêve étrange et ouaté avant la batterie breaké de « Synthropy » et ses arpeggiators entre Moroder, Sébastien Tellier et François de Roubaix. Mais nous ne sommes pas tirés d’a!aire : « Lunacy » a!ole les compteurs et vrille dans l’acid ; un morceau sur lequel on a hâte de transpirer en live. Antoine et Gabriel nous laissent en pleine descente avec « Et les montagnes fumaient », autre instantané, grenoblois cette fois, où les rythmiques cèdent la place à de discrètes percussions avec des lignes de synthés qui ne sont pas sans évoquer le lyrisme de Justice.

Pourson premier album, ATOEM prend des risques et regarde au-delà de l’horizon artistique qui a fait sa réputation, cherchant les accidents, les contre-pieds, tout ce qui peut les aider à faire émerger la musique qu’ils ont en tête dans toute sa richesse. « Entropy », nous rappelle, à l’aube de l’ère des intelligences artificielles, que ce sont bien deux êtres humains, faits de chair et de sentiments, qui tournent les boutons de ces machines.

Iorie is a producer, Liveact and DJ from Germany. He started young singing, playing instruments and combined it all later by starting to produce at the age of 15. His music ranges through all tempos always conjunct in the purpose to shake your body, move your heart and excite your mind. In his tracks he uses the sounds of his travels and tries to capture all the encounters that come along them in unique sound and personal, philosophical lyrics.
