The Place of Resting

We’ve walked through quiet meadows
Climbed the hills and rested there
Seen the hard times and the plenty
We’ve seen more than most could bear

We stared out at the heavens
Wondered at the great beyond
And the stars are silent witness
To what we’ve lost and what we’ve found

I’ve watched  you tend your peaceful garden
Tried heed the things you say
Drifted back to our place of resting
We found in the hills one day

Then we came to a stony crossroad
When the sun was hanging low
As the twilight fell around us
There was just one way to go

And you went there with the courage
Of a hundred soldiers strong
I kept your smiling eyes in my heart
You found the place where we’ll belong

And I still see your radiant garden
And I still hear the words you say
I’ll find comfort in our place of resting
For all these earthly days
