Hey there, I'm Austen Mengler - an independent pop horror concept artist, illustrator & exhibitor from Perth, Western Australia who loves drawing monsters!

I've always been making art since I could hold a pencil, and since 2010 while studying & after graduating Curtin University I've been working full time as a concept artist & illustrator on a variety of international freelance projects worldwide, creating traditional & digital concept art, illustration, character & creature designs for films, video games, album covers, Kickstarter projects, comics, graphic novels & more. My most recent client & publishing works include designing the title creature design for the 2019 Australian Horror Film "The Faceless Man" by Chapter 5 Studios, zombie makeup work Pogo's "HorrorLand" as well as creating & donating my painting "Escape" in the "Australia Burns" bushfire relief graphic novel & From Ashes charity zine.

Since 2013 I've also regularly exhibited at pop culture, collector & art events in Perth and all around Australia, including performing live demo workshops and talking on panels about my digital concept art, character & creature design process.

As well as freelance projects for clients, I've also been developing and releasing my own original horror art projects and collections, including:

POP HORROR: a warped horrific parody of my favourite pop culture characters.

EXECUTION - my scifi/fantasy/horror post apocalyptic world building comic IP project.

MY SHADOWS - a dark black and white art book collection of personal digital horror paintings.

SCARY SKETCHES - a look behind the scenes at my traditional pencil, ink and marker sketches and illustrations that go into each detailed digital Photoshop painting, as well as showcasing more rough and early concept art.

Other things that keep me busy are releasing new artwork on my Patreon and social media channels, making videos & tutorials for my YouTube Channel, updating my Online Store, Etsy, Society6, Redbubble, INPRNT & Gumroad, and sharing more about my art creation process online.

Jam sessions lasting as long as a David Lynch feature film, lo-fi shots and expressive attitudes that seem to come out of a style exercise where Syd Barret, Matisse, Godard, God Speed You Black Emperor without violins, Electric Wizard without "esotericism", Sleep with less paunch and tattoos, Steve Reich on acid and a massive dose of Puglia in his veins are included.

Lento is an instrumental musical venture commenced in Rome, Italy, in fall 2004 whose main purpose is to give shape to an introspective approach with relentless efforts.
It took 3 years to develop as an artistic issue and to give birth to Earthen, released in 2007 on behalf of Supernaturalcat, with Relapse supplying US distribution.
This led events to a few years of great empathy in learning to be a musician, and to find a way to take responsibility of a 2nd album whose conveyed in "Icon", released in 2011 on Denovali records.
Then the way back to the need of an outward appearance. Europe took care of this.
"Live recording 8.10.11" is meant to be a snapshot of what have been during this last, plenty of occurrences, year.

Based in Lecce (South of Italy) and founded by Sergio Chiari, White Zoo records is notorious for scoring and releasing first Giuda's record ever (the mythological and now very rare to find "Get It Over" 7"). The label is devoted to punk rock, glam rock, new wave and any underground & cool rock music. 
In almost 8 years the label has been crucial for the re-discovery of Rome's punk rock scene and responsible for the dawn and renaissance of a "New Wave of Glam Rock" on vinyl format (Faz Waltz, Dr Boogie, Idol Lips, Glitz among the others...) spending a good amount of our money to release music that still sounds properly grrreat.

" Killer bouncy punk rock ripper hear from this great band outta Italy. Bravata continues to bring the hits on their second single “Lead The Sin”. The title track kicks off with a tune that recalls fellow Italian Punk Rockers Taxi with big driving guitar hooks and an echoed reverberating chorus that just draws you in. On the flip is a really catchy mellower tune called ‘Rude’ that really surprised me. It sounds like Joey Ramone collaborating with Johnny Thunders writing a mellower downer tune for Thunders first solo record. The song is very well written, inspired and played with a genuine sense of passion that you don’t see in to many punk bands these days. Generally with two songers, if theirs a mellower tune, it usually doesn’t have as much of an impact as the faster tune. But on this single it does and I keep coming back to it more than the A-side. If you have’t heard Bravata, this is a good place to start. Recommended. "
