Defining a band's sound is always a tricky business, requiring one to walk the tightrope between cliche and bombast. So when a band is described as "expertly fusing the genius of Morricone and Moroder to create upbeat Western-inspired indie with just a hint of disco..." (Bido Lito!), where do you go from there?

 

The Shipbuilders exist as a melting pot where the surreal meets the sublime. Since releasing their first EP, 'Something in the Water' in 2016, the band have continuously expanded their sound and scope of influences to create a world where sparkling pop wonders are nestled between Spanish Civil War laments, gypsy arias, and chaotic, shambolic odes to drinking, death and everything in between. All of this is done with added lashings of melody and the writings of Garcia Lorca and James Joyce, dictating that the wonder of the beauty of the world - and beyond - is never overlooked.


Naturally, all rivers have led to the ocean that is debut album, 'Spring Tide', which is due for release in 2022 via Mai 68 Records. A definitive lassoing of the band's journey to date, the ten tracks recorded with Danny Whitewood (BC Camplight, Ladytron) are a perfect distillation of the Shipbuilders' sound and vision and will be available on 12" vinyl, CD and digital download. A bonus CD, 'Neap Tide', featuring remixes, demos, extra tracks and versions sang in other languages will also be available for purchase on CD.

The Shipbuilders' universe is one all are welcome to explore, as the band have also established their own 'Shipwrecked' clubnights which over the past four years have played host to some of Merseyside's finest bands and spoken word artists, while raising funds and food for local foodbanks and charities. Such is the success of Shipwrecked, Summer 2021 saw the inaugral Shipwrecked Festival, a sold out all-day multi-stage event in Birkenhead's Future Yard, before the band took the even to Newport and Bristol in the autumn.

Live, The Shipbuilders have toured across the UK and have featured regularly at festivals including Liverpool Sound City, Liverpool Music Week and played Kendal Calling.

As the Spring Tide starts to rise, a UK wide tour is in the works and well aware time and tide wait for no man, work is well underway on album two.

British comedian Adam Buxton talks with interesting people. The rambly conversations are sometimes funny, sometimes more serious with funny bits. Adam records the intros and outros for most episodes while walking with his dog friend Rosie in the East Anglian countryside where he lives with his wife and three children. 

Adam has appeared in films such as ‘Hot Fuzz’, ‘Stardust’ and ‘Son Of Rambow’ as well as a variety of TV shows in the UK. Since 2007 he has hosted ‘BUG’, a live show that combines music videos and comedy that became a TV series on Sky Atlantic in 2012. From time to time he also does live shows featuring just his own material. Along with lifelong friend Joe Cornish he also is one half of award winning TV, radio and podcast duo Adam & Joe who have worked together since 1995.

English alt-country band formed by Jof Owen from The Boy Least Likely. Inspired by a long standing love of country music and memories of growing up watching Pebble Mill and listening to Johnny Cash and Marty Robbins, they were formed in the Summer of 2014. Their songs combine a classic old country sound with an honest and unmistakable English indie pop charm. Heartfelt and uplifting with a truckload of chicken pickin' and country swagger thrown in.

Produced by Rob Jones (Pictish Trail, Meilyr Jones, Rozi Plain), their second album, Anything But Country, is due to be released in 2022. Adding eighties synths to their neo-traditionalist country sound, they’ve doubled down on their love of Dire Straits and nineties country and recorded ten blistering cuts of what they’re calling “Drivetime” country; hi-NRG country pop with an eighties heartland rock power pulsing through the middle of it.

Their debut album was released to glowing reviews and great support at radio from Bob Harris on Radio 2, Chris Country Radio, Baylen Leonard on Amazing Radio and Cerys Matthews on 6 music, as well as other roots and country shows across the UK and the Rough Trade shop. The Saturday Dads was also the Record Of The Week on Absolute Radio. They’ve played headline shows across London at The Social, The Barfly, The Ace Hotel, Rough Trade East, The Lexington and The Slaughtered Lamb, as well as supporting Roddy Woomble, Cale Tyson and Karl Blau in the UK and appearing at Country To Country, Maverick, End Of The Road and Truck Festival.

Aside from the tongue-in-cheek band name, the only hint of irony here derives from the fact that one of the most exciting country bands around at the moment comes from the English home counties, not Nashville.
