Kromanteng (Pronounced Kro-man-ting) equates to the English word “rebel” as translated by Africans in Africa and throughout the diaspora.

Africa has played a crucial role in the development of Kromanteng.  Born to Ghanian parents in the United States, he was greatly influenced by the the artists of his father’s record collection, including Osibisa, Fela Kuti, Kurtis Blow, Anita Baker, Stevie Wonder, Pat Thomas, Bob Marley, Sugarhill Gang, etc… 
Being raised amidst R&B, reggae, hip hop led to Kromanteng’s desire to write his own music to instrumentals. This enthusiasm was enhanced when discovering the positive and intelligent music of A Tribe Called Quest, De La Sol, and The Roots, amongst others.

While attending high school in Ghana, Kromanteng gained experience by performing at talent shows and was influenced by other artists of the early Hip Life genre.  During this time he was recording under the name Peep Skillz. Upon returning to the USA, one contact lead to another which culminated in his internship at Universal/Motown under the tutelage of Kojo Bentil, Vice President of Business Operations.

Working at Universal taught Kromanteng how the industry works.  This experience enlightened his perspective and gave him a clear view of the positive and negative aspects of the commercial music industry.

Having gone through a period of financial and developmental struggle, his drive to succeed was only intensified.  Kromanteng temporarily worked in different corporate positions which allowed him to save up funds that later financed his home studio and independent record label Open Gutta Entertainment.  This led to the creation of his first album “Audio Auto Cad.”

The growth and success of Kromanteng is indebted to the people who have assisted him along the way. While there are too many people to mention in all, some of the greatest influences to come into Kromanteng’s life have been Reggie Rockstone, Cedric Hargrave, Drack Muse and the Ill Relatives, David Banner, C-Murder, Kojo Bentil, Sami Bentil, Dead Prez, The Youngbloodz, and Donisha Prendergast.

Kromanteng is currently located in Berlin, Germany where he is recording; shooting videos; working with new artists; and maintaining his shoe company, Gutta Soles. 
Kromanteng’s latest album, “THE NEXT EP,” was released on the 18th of October, 2013.
