In the dying light of each day they gathered, the long shadows of the dojo scaffold casting darkness across the solemn faces of the keepers of their art. Each took his turn to tell a part of the story, handed through the generations by their masters. Components of a tale of the overwhelming horror of a past that others preferred to bury in myth. They spoke of a time when the coming of the night spelt death for those in the open blackness, with the pressing undead mass reaching from beyond the grave to extinguish the last embers of life, locked in a desperate struggle to crush the final beacon that sheltered the living. They spoke of he who blocked the crushing sea of extinction in the depths of each night, shielding the fragility of life with the perfection of his brutal and efficient form. The eyes of the living only greeted each new day because of the immortal techniques that had now been passed to them, the new guardians of the beacon, masters of an art now evolved – watching, waiting, perfecting their deadly art… ready for the return of those beyond death.

Following up the immensely successful Karate LP from core Eatbrain artist L 33, comes a deadly second approach to some of the most blinding tracks from the album - reimagined by a collection of apex predators in drum & bass. PROLIX delivers an exhilarating and forward-leaning groove with his take on CLUBLIFE, whilst JOE FORD percussive prowess and intricate and on-point production pushes DROP IT DOWN LOW into dynamic and fresh realms. The depth of the forest was unknown to those who lived at its verge. Shadows cast from the dense canopy seemed to reach out towards those who passed close by, wisps of darkness unfurling and twisting around the limbs of the youngest that dared to play at its sinister edge. The oldest stories of its roots passed across the creaking voices of the town pensioners hunched in the safety of others, discretely whispered and shot through with fearful looks. The allure of that dense and ancient place stretched back eternal, and bitter consequence waited for those who breached its dark heart.  The crew ignored the nonsense of such crones, pulling the carts of equipment under the cover of dusk until the sounds of the town were but a memory. The speaker stacks were raised against the night, strings of lights hung between the trees and purity of disturbed bass rolled against the surrounding trunks as they disentangled themselves from the mundane fiber of the lives they left behind. Twisting against one another as they let flood serotonin delight, they ignited an orgy of sonic symbiosis as the rave found its wings and took flight. The spores drifted imperceptibly into the clearing from the darkness around, lodging without discomfort in the eyes, ears and noses of the gathered young. And then the screaming started, the undulating mass of the gathering turned inward… devouring itself as limbs were separated from bodies, necks ripped as skin tore loose and the blood flowed freely over the gnashing faces of those left alive at the KILL PARTY… 
  
GYDRA return to EATBRAIN in force, following up their well-received CYBORG EP with the dynamic, darkly driven but funk-laced assault of the KILL PARTY EP. The Test of Power & Strength had pitted the raw might the adventurer against impossible odds, and yet through their incredible prowess they had survived to proceed to the next trial. As they stepped into the first true room of the temple complex, leaving its massive courtyard behind them, the adventurer was perplexed to find but a single set of doors before them as the voice of the temple’s mysterious inhabitant boomed forth from its walls once more. 

“In the first trial, you were tested upon strength of body alone, but herein such brutish brawn alone will not see you succeed. Beyond this door lays the third and final trial & the knowledge you seek, but you must first prove that your spirit is pure and that your soul is clean of any ulterior motives should you ever hope to leave. This is the second trial of the temple. This is the TEST OF SPIRIT & SOUL.”

The voice departed as quickly as it had arrived, and the adventurer moved to step through the door. Flinging open the great door they found themselves alone, suspended above a great void by an animalistic spirit that seemed to emerge from their own bodies. The adventurer hung precariously from this great creature, and as the beast began to move their connection was tenuously held by only the smallest movements of the adventurer’s body. Battered by wind and wave of doubt and dread at what might lay before them, the adventurer journeyed through the spirit realm on virtue of thought alone,before finding themself deposited beyond the threshold of the very door that they had stood before both so recently and yet so long ago. They were approaching the knowledge that they had for so long sought, but before them lay the third and final trial, which promised to push their limits further than any that had come before.

GYDRA return to EATBRAIN to debut the followup to their most recent EATBRAIN single Lava Run - “The Test of Power & Strength”, with a continuation of the thematic series in the form of HANGJAW – "THE TEST OF SPIRIT AND SOUL". This newest single from the Russian neurofunk legends brings their draconic fury to the EATBRAIN horde, imbuing their ranks with the spirit of the legendary creatures from which they draw their name.
