The Destroyer

And now for something completely different. Faces of Def is a new project featuring drum and bass stalwart and Planet Human don Dieselboy and new producer Mark the Beast. Their music was recently featured in Dieselboy's brand new mix "The Destroyer" and exhibits a fresh and unique sound that is unlike anything else in the bass scene today. Their music pulls its influences from across the EDM spectrum and flexes them in the context of a thrilling 175 beats per minute. In a word - BANGING. "Blvck Celebration", their first official release, sees them teaming up with the heavyweight DNB Counterstrike crew to produce a BIG room, BIG bassline track that sounds like a piledriver on steroids. Pounding. Crushing. Brand fucking new. Future music for the futuristic DJ.

#TBT - Cold Fusion - Dogs On Acid Mix - 2005

The festive season is here and I just hit 2 million plays, so it's a double celebration. Now if, like me, you think that nothing says Christmas like a bit of soul-crushingly dark techstep then I'm sure this festive offering won't disappoint. Indeed, this idea is one I've been sat on for a while; my mixing habits have definitely slowed this year but I really wanted to grind a decent one out before 2025. 

The mix rationale then. Caught up somewhere between my 500th listening of Trace & Ed Rush's legendary '97 One In The Jungle set, and the preceding year's Tech Steppin compilation, I found myself asking a simple question. What if the legendary (and it really is fucking legendary) 'No U-Turn Experience' mix had been made a year earlier? Original tracks by Usual Suspects, Optiv & BTK, Maztek and Future Cut are reimagined by InsideInfo, Maztek, Optiv & BTK and Verb respectively.

The InsideInfo remix of Usual Suspects’ Killa Bees leads things off, with its recognisable apocalyptic opening and signature vocal sample. As the beat drops in, the world as you know it will stop, replaced by a pulsing, addictive soundscape. InsideInfo adds his usual rolling, headnodding beats, and squelching, claustrophobic basslines.
