Fanatic is a music marketing company established by Josh Bloom in 1997 to build fan-to-fan connections between artists and the media. For nearly 30 years, Fanatic has continued to help launch and maintain careers through the strategic advocacy of creative talent.

The Canal is a seven-piece band based in Indianapolis, IN that fuses together music’s most popular genres of rap, pop and rock. Some have referred to this style as alternative rock, power pop, hip-pop or even alternative rap; but we just consider it good music. Local blogger, Eric Y. Shin, went as far as referring to The Canal’s music as a “narrative symphony.” Shin then went on to add that, “The Canal paints a spectrum of sound.”

Their inspiration spills out of their music upon first listen as you may be reminded of the sounds of such groups as Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, or The Fray all romantically intertwined with hip-hop sounds reminiscent of Lupe Fiasco, N.E.R.D., and Gym Class Heroes. And although inspired by these great artists, every Canal song is a motion picture in itself; a new story and a journey all its own.

Their debut album, “Make A Mess,” created a giant buzz in their hometown since its June 11th, 2011 release. In addition to digitally distributing the album to such online stores as iTunes, Rhapsody and Amazon, the first shipment of 100 CDs sold out the night of their album release show.

The release show extravaganza was also a major success as we packed our venue with approximately 400 people and even trended locally on Twitter. Nationally-renowned CHR radio personality Scotty Davis, hosted the event making it an even bigger buzz in the country’s 25th largest media market.

Regarding the album, WMGI (100.7 MIXFM) Terre Haute afternoon radio personality, Just Plain Joe, wrote: “The instrumentation on this album is nearly flawless and the fusion of hip hop vocals over rock instruments is amazing. It’s not like anything you’ve heard before.”

“Lemons,” was the first single from “Make A Mess,” and debuted as a power on Indy’s number one rock station, X103 (WRZX), being proclaimed as “the most buzz worthy song on the X. This proclamation has also been given to songs such as, “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall,” by Coldplay and “Heaven,” by O.A.R. “Lemons,” has also quickly became an anthem on college campuses throughout Indianapolis as well as the Broad Ripple nightclub scene.

The music video for “Lemons” was released in late November 2011 and reached a wide national audience, catching the eye of many of the industries leading labels. With plans to tour early in 2012, this was a milestone that never came to pass. As a band, focus then shifted towards quickly filming and releasing their second music video "Alive" in early August 2012. However, due to logistics and technical difficulties the release of the video was delayed as well. The combination of these two major hits, left The Canal with feelings of discouragement and turmoil and those who love their music with a hunger and desire to see and hear more.

"Alive" premiered on Nov. 12th, 2012. And with glowing reviews from family, friends, and acquaintances alike, this provided The Canal with new-found strength to continue fighting for success in the unforgiving music industry. With plans once again to tour in spring/summer of 2013 and brand new material on the horizon, this group is dedicated, determined and ready to share their music with the rest of the world.
