Born in Denver, Colorado, Damage Complex has been bringing his own unique style flow to the Denver music scene for the past 8 years. Growing in the diverse environments of Denver and Aurora, Damage Complex has experienced the environments of the city life and suburbs. Without the diversity found in the city, Damage found himself getting into trouble with the law, drugs, and gangs at an early age. He lost himself in the gang life by looking for trouble and the quick cash. Fighting was a constant way of life during this period and until he hooked up with a crew called Bombshell. They still got into trouble from time to time through hustling, but now freestyling, rhyming, and rapping became incorporated into the daily mix. Honestly, Damage believes that music truly saved his life by giving him a purpose and hope. But things did not start changing until the death of his brother, Miguel Angel Chavez.

“It was like a slap of reality and everything just felt like a game, like living in a movie.  The reality of the situation became even realer after the day of his death, thinking that death was not too far away if the crew continued on the same path. They were like family, surviving became a day to day thing, but the death broke up the crew and everyone split off on their own.”

Damage Complex began freestyling and battling throughout high school, never turning down a challenge, and always coming up on top. It was a constant challenge, 6 hours a day-7 days a week, with other people trying to out-rhyme each other. The frequent battles, freestyling, fights, and partying, brought new contenders and through this he started to actually start to write lyrics through the encouragement of everyone who listened in to the battles.

Damage’s first CD was created in his basement with only a recording usb ,mixer, mic and  headphones. Without ever using computers he had to record a whole song without messing up and re-recording over that file to add dubs, which resulted in horrible quality. But, after every song he produced his style continued to improve. The first mixtape had only 3 songs and only a few were ever printed. Every song was filled with anger, which were the product of the gang life, losing himself, being homeless, and the death of his brother.

The production quality of his tracks did not get better even after visiting several smaller studios around Denver until he met up with producer, Dilly Talavera. Dilly, who was 15 at the time, worked on his own beats in his basement with any piece of beat making software he could get a hold of. From the first meeting they started working together and started to create the album Rollin Solo. It wasn’t long after that Loyal, from the Bombshell group, joined the crew and this is when they really started to upgrade their sound and recording equipment.

The title “Rollin Solo” came from the separation of his crew, going on missions, partying with his friends, to suddenly never seeing them again, and getting his life back on track. Throughout the production of the album, Damage had to continue working low paying hourly jobs to support himself and his music career. There was success and great compliments on the new album, but he never got anywhere because of the lack of any sort of marketing.

Two Years have past and he is 23 and currently working on his third Album called “The takeover”. Compared to his first album the speed of his flow and the complexities of his lyrics had resulted in the change his name into Damage Complex. He now understands the music world a lot better and has decided to not get signed to a label. Instead Damage plans to create his own label and stay strictly independent.

His aggressive lyrics are an expression of his experiences from the struggles of gang life and barely scraping by, even though as of now he is staying out of trouble. He is living with no regrets and hoping one day to make an impact to be heard to help troubled kids stay away from violence. He has decided to donate 100% of the profits of his CD’s, Rollin Solo and The Takeover, to help with a variety of causes he believes in.
