Chrissy is a genre-bending DJ/producer with releases on Hooversound Recordings, Sorry Records, Classic Music Company, 17 Steps, Dansu Discs, Pets Recordings, and more. He’s known for his friendly demeanor, big smile, and unwavering support for new artists and marginalized communities in our scene—traits that shine through in his expansive, multi-genre DJ sets. His selections often center on rave music, Chicago house, and disco, but his multi-decade career has ranged from jungle to footwork to freestyle. This unique form of story-telling has brought him to venues such as Panorama Bar and Fabric, as well as prior residencies at Smartbar in Chicago, and San Francisco’s oldest and most storied queer club, The Stud.

Also known as a well-regarded voice on dance music history, Chrissy ran the popular “My Year of Mixtapes” blog, posting original genre-focused DJ mixes every week for a year. He wrote the liner notes for Hardcore Traxx: Dance Mania Records 1986-1997, compiled the forthcoming Montreal disco retrospective Move Up Energize for Unidisc Music, and has written on dance music history, queer history, and advice for young musicians in Mixmag, Beatportal, DJ Mag, Red Bull Music Academy, XLR8R, and Electronic Beats.

His latest venture is a new record label called Maximum Airtime: a DIY, grass-roots, anti-corporate operation featuring upfront, melody-forward rave bangers from ABSOLUTE., Coco Cole, Tim Reaper, Fear-E, Guchon, Hard Ton, Mister Wallace, and more.

Chrissy is also a mainstay of dance music radio, dropping in for regular guest mixes on BBC 6 Music, NTS, Rinse FM, and The Lot Radio. His monthly Maximum Airtime radio program airs every third Thursday on Dublab.

Claude Debussy (1862–1918)
Claude Debussy was a French composer and one of the most influential figures in classical music, widely regarded as the father of Impressionism in music. Born on August 22, 1862, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France, Debussy’s innovative use of harmony, texture, and tone revolutionized the landscape of classical music, pushing the boundaries of traditional forms and paving the way for modernism.

Debussy’s compositions are renowned for their rich, evocative textures and lyrical expressiveness, often inspired by nature, art, and literature. His most famous works, such as Clair de Lune, Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, La Mer, and Arabesque No. 1, showcase his mastery of orchestration and his ability to evoke mood and atmosphere through sound. With a preference for ambiguity and fluidity, Debussy often broke conventional structures, opting for unusual scales such as the whole tone scale, and creating music that defies simple categorization.

A key figure in the late Romantic and early Modern periods, Debussy’s music bridged the gap between the lush emotionalism of the 19th century and the more dissonant, experimental styles of the 20th century. His approach to rhythm, harmony, and tonality has had a lasting influence on generations of composers, including Maurice Ravel, Igor Stravinsky, and contemporary film score composers.

Debussy’s health was often fragile, and he faced personal and financial struggles throughout his life. Ray has released two critically acclaimed albums on Sony: a recital program “Virtuoso” of works by Bach, Tartini, Franck, and Wieniawski, and the Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky concertos with Swedish Radio Orchestra and Daniel Harding.   Following the success of these recordings, Ray was profiled by The Strad and Gramophone magazines as “the one to watch”.   “Virtuoso” was distinguished with the prestigious ECHO Klassik award.   He is currently working on his third, all-Mozart album with Christoph Eschenbach and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, slated for release later this year.
Ray continues to win the admiration of fans and fellow musicians worldwide.   In 2012, he became the youngest soloist ever to perform in the televised Nobel Prize Concert for the Nobel Laureates and the Swedish Royal Family.   His Carnegie Hall debut with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and Sakari Oramo, as well as his sold-out Musikverein concert with the Gewandhaus Orchestra and Riccardo Chailly were met with standing ovations.   Since the 2012- 13 season, Ray has been invited to join Konzerthaus Dortmund's series “Junge Wilde,” which presents young and groundbreaking artists in Germany.   Later this season, Ray will make his San Francisco recital debut at the SF Jazz Center. He also looks forward to his upcoming recital tour of Australia and his debuts with the Orchestre National de France and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Followed by over 500,000 people on SoundCloud, Ray Chen looks to expand the classical music audience by increasing its appeal to the young generation via all available social media platforms.   He is the first ever classical musician to be invited to write a regular blog about his life as a touring soloist for the largest Italian publishing house, RCS Rizzoli (Corriere della Sera, Gazzetta dello Sport, Max).   In his unstinting efforts to break down barriers between classical music, fashion and pop culture, he is supported by Giorgio Armani and was recently featured in Vogue magazine.
Born in Taiwan and raised in Australia, Ray was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music at age 15, where he studied with Aaron Rosand and was supported by Young Concert Artists.   He plays the 1702 "Lord Newlands" Stradivarius violin on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.
