DJ Emma G is one of only a handful of well-respected female DJs from New Zealand. Dubbed ‘Golden Girl’ of the local D&B scene, she is the former Auckland house queen, and more recently renowned for rocking out her signature sound of upbeat, soulful drum & bass in clubs and on radio. Working in fashion by day, with a strong passion for promoting her love of intelligent music, it’s no doubt she has been influential in bringing back the sex appeal to such a male-dominated industry.

Growing up in a musical family, with a set of turntables at home belonging to her DJ/Producer brother, naturally led to an early discovery of adoration for electronic music. As a teen she set her mind to mastering the art of turntablism, developing her own unique style of seamless mixing which was to soon be unleashed onto dancefloors around the globe.

Debuting on student radio BFM in 1998, she quickly began to make a name for herself on the rave scene and was scouted in 2001 for what was to become a long-time stint hosting weekly on New Zealand dance radio station George FM. She was also selected for residencies all over Auckland and became one of the hottest DJs on the party circuit. A well-respected promoter, she is the face and signature sound of ‘Liquid Recreation’, one of the city’s most infamous monthly nights she created and toured around the country. Most recently her hit mix series ‘Soulside Sessions’ – a collaborative project with MC Tali has a solid fan base steadily rising around the worldwide web.

Performing alongside many of the industry’s most respected artists on tour down in New Zealand eventually led to an inevitable relocation to the UK, to immerse herself in the scene where the heart of Drum & Bass truly began. Busy making moves and grooves around the Northern Hemisphere, the esteemed Integral imprint has taken Emma G on as label manager and she is regularly being snapped up to play sets around Europe; highlights include BEATPATROL festival in Austria and the legendary SUN AND BASS.

Emma G’s DJ sets are epitomized by heart and soul matched with magnetic bass, and a combination of lush, deep introspective rollers and uplifting dance floor smashers. She is all about creating a journey of sound and bass magic for her listeners and dancers. She swears by Soul:R, Metalheadz, the likes of Calibre, A.I., Lenzman, LSB, Dub Phizix, Skeptical and of course her own Integral family of artists to name just a few. If the vibe’s alive, it’ll be on hot rotation!

Rob ‘Dogger’ Smith the London-based Mancunion delivering liquid drum & bass steeped in soul.

His musical landscape has been shaped by where he grew up. Manchester’s foreboding skies and frequent rain clouds mean, like so many Mancunian musicians that have come before him, he connects to music with a melancholy undertone, that’s provocative and emotional

Dogger got into DJing, and later producing, on discovering and falling in love with jungle, tracks of influence collide, specifically in drum & bass legends Calibre and the late, great, Marcus Intalex. Beyond these Smith’s influences span David Lynch, Joy Division and Björk, as well as Alix Perez, whose label has now released his music with collaborative partner Mindstate —2019’s Broken Home EP with a second, The Time Is Yours, due imminently. 


The pair like their music stripped back, allowing space for the vocal line to shine, and nowhere does this ring truer than on the title track of Broken Home. Across the four tracks, singer-songwriter Liam Bailey (Bailey laid down the vocal on Chase & Status’ 2011 classic ‘Blind Faith’), brings warmth and soul to Dogger & Mindstate’s crisp and atmospheric production — with watery pads and bright chord progressions, it’s liquid at its most emotive, and its most meditative. 

2019 was a promising year for Dogger & Mindstate, not only for their production debut as a duo, but also for a handful of career-defining shows. Sardinia festival SUNANDBASS was a highlight, where Dogger was invited to play on a lineup curated by Calibre, and the duo played the Space Cadet pool party hosted by DRS

There’s no doubt that 2020 would have been an exciting one for Dogger. That is before, of course, a pandemic brought the world grinding to a halt. But smith used the time to focus on production, both with Mindstate and on their respective solo projects, the fruits of which will come out via Dogger’s new imprint, Precinct. Besides working together, they’re also working with MC DRS, and Manchester-based vocalist [ K S R ].

Belfast-born Dominick Martin has spent the last 30 years simply creating. He’s done so with a sort of restrained melancholy that’s broad enough to encompass a myriad of tempos and genres. Over 22 albums, this includes his more song-based experimental LPs, from drum & bass into dub, techno, house, ambient, jazz, soul, blues and folk.

The same can be said of his award winning DJ sets: Fluent within his own vast range, favouring the bookings where space and time allow him to draw out a narrative and provoke emotions, predominantly based on his own material. Calibre sets draw from his own personal spectrum, never resort to hype tactics and are perennially sprung with never-before-heard surprises. Whether you experience him taking over a room for the full 6+ hour trip, or he plays a shorter higher impact role on a bigger bill, his singular signature persists: a soulfully honest sense of the transcendental and a unique perspective and approach.
