Helix Nebula (First Record Works)

"Helix Nebula" is a deeply personal project, recorded entirely on an old Yamaha DGX-200 synth workstation. The album was composed, mixed, and mastered using only the on-board sounds and memory of the synth, which limited editing options and track length. Each song was recorded in a single take, without the ability to clip, cut, or edit in precise measures, creating a unique challenge and shaping the creative process in unexpected ways.

Despite the technical limitations, this album became an exploration of creativity and patience. The constraints led me to embrace a raw, spontaneous approach to music production, and I'm proud of what I was able to achieve. I began the project when I was younger, and completed it in 2009.

My Creative Process for Helix Nebula

My process starts by immersing myself in the sounds, pads, and presets available on the synth, experimenting with panning, effects, and splits to create layered, evolving textures. I would spend hours just exploring the sonic possibilities before settling into a rhythm or melody. Often, I’d record a part—whether a pad, melody line, or just an idea I was feeling in the moment—then layer other tracks on top, always working from start to finish in a single pass.

Due to memory limitations, I could only record up to five tracks per song. To work around this, I often switched instruments mid-track to maximize the synth’s capabilities. The process was a constant cycle of revisiting, rewriting, and sometimes completely scrapping a song to start fresh. But when I found something that resonated, I stuck with it until the piece was complete.

Since the on-board memory could only hold so much, the album was recorded in two parts, with each section capturing a distinct phase of the creative journey.

About Me

I am currently studying Music Production at ACM@UCO, where I refine my skills and further immerse myself in the world of sound design and composition. I'm also Avid Specialist Certified, with expertise in several music production platforms, including Cubase Pro 12, Pro Tools, Ableton, FL Studio 21, and Logic Pro X. My creative influences span a wide range of genres—from Trance, Chillstep, and EDM, to classical, indie, and Synthwave.

I work primarily with an 88-key weighted piano and a 61-key MIDI controller, along with an AKAI MPK Mini for MIDI control. My go-to plugins include Omnisphere II, Keyscape, Serum, Polyplex, and Sub XL, among others.

For me, composition is a deeply personal experience—one that blends emotion, imagination, and a bit of the surreal. I draw inspiration not only from the music itself, but from vivid dreams, intense night terrors, and moments of profound introspection. These experiences often influence my music, giving it a sense of otherworldliness and atmosphere.

My work is an invitation to explore new sonic landscapes, whether you're diving deep into your favorite hobbies or simply unwinding with the vibrations. I hope you find something that resonates with you.

Currently one of the most versatile producers in the scene, Hamdi’s ability to produce a wide range of styles and genres has made him an exciting prospect for any label to get their hands on. Hamdi’s signature blend of Dubstep, UKG and Grime has earned him support from some of the biggest artists in the world, including Skrillex, Knife Party, Fred Again.., Zeds Dead and Porter Robinson. Closer to home, Hamdi has consistently received support from the UK underground scene’s most prestigious acts, including DJ EZ, Skream, Sherelle and Mala. 

His track Skanka has taken the world by storm and was arguably one of the biggest Dubstep tracks of 2022, with DJ Mag writing '‘Skanka’ has already proven its staying power and firmly cemented its place as a modern classic.' Hamdi has also become known for his energetic DJ sets that have already taken him to India, Australia and the United States. As 3000 Blog wrote, ‘there really aren’t many who are keeping pace with Hamdi, as he tends to fly from deck to deck, pulling the audience from left to right in a seriously thrilled multi-genre ride.’ With releases on labels such as Bassrush, Deadbeats, and Vision Recordings already under his belt, it's safe to say the future is bright for Hamdi.
