Bio:
Mike Perez a.k.a. Big Red on the stage is the former band leader, composer, and creator of the band Dirty Funk Junkies/Music Republic Band. Self taught musician able to play piano, bass, and guitar, his raw talent speaks in his performances on stage. In his early 20's he spent all of his time as classical piano soloist. Playing for weddings and composing songs for websites, charities, individual artist. But living in Chicago the inevitable discovery of Blues, Funk, and Soul from the local live bars inspired and awed him. It changed and evolved his way of writing. He decided to give up his piano playing to play bass guitar. That is when he formed the Dirty Funk Junkies. Because of his contemporary style of playing, His compositions resemble a cinematic style of writing filled movements and lyrics that only his soulful and earthly voice can sing the story to. Mike has now moved to New Orleans. Since moving to New Orleans in 2013 Big Red has formed at high energy Blues/Soul/New OrleansChicago mixed funk band named Peezy n Dem led by native New Orleans Guitarist Jon Pastorak as a shared front man. Big Red is also a hired gun for bands around the city because of his talent and ability to sing. Playing with Funk Band HIT IT AND QUIT IT, Horns led band ONE PERCENT BAND, Country Rock band MATT BABINEAUX, and Currently in a Salsa band project. You can see him around town, 6'2" Big reddish/brown bass, and his signature cigar in his mouth.
