Distant Sirens

This song is called Southbound. I wrote it years ago in the basement of an old friends house while I was house sitting for them. The house at the time was also our rehearsal spot for a band I played in called "Forum" may years ago. At the time this song was not appropriate or the type or style we were doing. So I kept it to myself and figured I would record it some day. Wow, this song lingered in my head for over 10 plus years or so. Great to get that out. Thanks also Justin for putting life into it.

Southbound

Hive mind – we need your help. NPR’s Melissa Block recently interviewed musician Passenger (Mike Rosenberg) and he shared a story about a chance encounter with a stranger who had a profound impact on his life (listen at the link). We want to find that stranger.
 
Here’s the story: Last year during a tour stop in Minneapolis, Rosenberg made a late-night gas station trip to buy cigarettes. He struck up a conversation with an older man who was smoking outside next to his motorcycle. He learned that this gentlemen had been diagnosed with lung cancer and was mid-way through a cross-country road trip to see his family in New York, where he planned to spend the rest of his days.
 
Rosenberg never got the man’s name, but the experience affected him deeply. He quit smoking and wrote the song “Riding to New York.”

London-based singer-songwriter Douglas Dare releases new EP, following on from his debut album Whelm. Named after album track Caroline and new track If I Knew I Were Alive, it also features remixes by fellow label mate Ryan Lee West aka Rival Consoles and Houndstooth’s own electronic producer Ross Tones aka Throwing Snow.
Caroline has always been a precious track for Douglas, one of the first tracks he recorded and a story in which he imagines his grandfather is writing to a loved one during the war. As the only song on his debut album that is stripped down to just his voice and piano playing, and it being a favourite amongst fans at his concerts, it was a natural choice as a first single.
