Light in Babylon is a multicultural Istanbul-based band that has turned heads in the city with its original music that speaks to all cultures and languages. In a span of few years, their fan base grew miles beyond Turkey. Their songs are in Hebrew, but the themes are diverse. Michal Elia Kamal, the singer, is Israeli of Iranian origin; Julian Demarque, on guitar, is French; and Metehan Çiçi, on santour, is Turkish.

Dear friends,
“Eye Opener” is one of my oldest compositions, written during a time of searching, questioning, and uncertainty about where my journey would lead. This piece holds deep personal meaning for me, as it has accompanied me through different stages of my life. Every now and then, I revisit it to reflect on how I feel about it in the present moment.

I’m happy to share it with you and hope that some of the emotions I’ve poured into it resonate with you as well. Hey, it’s me again!
Butterfly is a single presented in three distinct versions, each offering a unique perspective on one central musical idea.

The main track opens with a delicate Moog sequence that gradually blossoms into a flowing felt piano motif. This progression mirrors a metamorphosis—symbolizing the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly, both sonically and conceptually.

The two companion versions zoom in on the gentle piano theme. By shifting tempo and texture, they unfold into their own quiet spaces—each one intimate, warm, and introspective, offering a softer lens on the original idea.

Sad but blues

Today, I’m sharing the second version of my track Butterfly (with the third and final version coming next week alongside the official release). This Slow Piano Version is noticeably slower and more atmospheric than the previously released Piano Solo Version, offering a gentler, more introspective experience.
