Hi Utu - so glad you have made it through the darkness to create this dark brilliance. Unfortunately art feeds off itself and sometimes the price for creativity can be high if the mind cannot find restorative energy and occasional peace. In the afternoon the birds are back. Lately ravens and crows gather around, waiting for the winter to end. In our garden their rasping songs drown the dwellers tune, sending out a melancholic message of past times. Mysterious.

https://soundcloud.com/mattxavier has been a friend of mine for many years now. A fellow music obsessive and trusted voice when it comes to all things ambient, techno, and beyond, we finally managed to meet in person while I lived in Los Angeles, and we stayed connected over music ever since. 

We’ve swapped stories about pressing vinyl and running labels, and he was the reason I first crossed paths with Joel Mull (Damm) at one of his gatherings held at a beautiful Topanga home. It was a serendipitous moment that still echoes today. 

A proponent for the deeper layers found in music, Matt has since become a practician, ambassador, and pioneer for psychedelic soundtracking. Along the way, he shared tracks from ASIP and other labels that were influencing and guiding his private sessions, shaping the grand masterpiece we present to you today. As his practice deepened, we exchanged many texts discussing his ambition to publish a book about his unique experience and include an accompanying mix on ASIP.

isolatedmix 132 - Matt Xavier: Psilocybin Therapy Protocol v1.22a

Between Seasons, the debut album of duo Osmanthus (Laura Reid and Krzysztof Sujata), is a collection of years old recordings waiting for the right time to come to light. Started in spring 2019, the duo began as a one-off pairing for a small gallery show, and quickly moved onto recording and playing regular gigs, only to be shelved temporarily in the fall of 2020.

Recorded in 3 sessions between the summer’s of 2019 and 2020, the album consists of 6 one take improvisations which were then edited, layered, altered, or left alone, in some combination. With the project files lost due to hard drive failure, the music sat immutable on a cloud backup, in stark contrast to the dynamic process in which they were created.

With the start of 2024 and both members finding themselves back in the same city, these old recordings are finally seeing the light of day.

In the past year I've gone through some heavy personal turmoil and difficulties which have quite thoroughly snuffed my inspiration in making music for myself. It seems like there's a tipping point after which emotional extremes and mental illness are no longer productive forces but instead gnaw at, and little by little destroy, everything that's important for the free flowing of creativity. 

However, I've still enjoyed performing live, perhaps more than ever. Somehow it has seemed pointless to produce and explore sound by myself, but sharing the experience live with other people has been a great refuge as well as a route of release. So here I would like to present a triptych consisting of three excerpts taken from various performances in the past year. 

My live shows are a fusion of varied improvised live instrumentation, percussion and singing, rituals, pre-orchestrated sound design, samples and field recordings. I also record and broadcast what I'm performing as I'm performing it, and manipulate the whole live to give more depth to the soundscapes. 

Solitude and headphones are recommended for a full aural experience.
