Putting their names in contention for Afro House track of the summer, MalYar and Y:K have combined their talents to present the industry with ‘Picaflor’, a product of forward-thinking sounds and styles from two of the most promising artists within the scene, out now on Smash Deep.
As the Afro House scene continues to grow and evolve along with its popularity, MalYar and Y:K have evolved with it. With this in mind, the pair have created a track that feels refreshingly modern, and a reflection of where the genre is headed as it shapeshifts and introduces different influences. With ‘Picaflor’ being the Spanish translation of ‘Hummingbird’, it's an accurate comparison of how rhythmic and delicate the soundscape is. 

The track’s different layers throughout allows for a dynamic listening experience, each section throughout the runtime offering a new vibe than before. Whether it's the tropical percussions, the hypnotic female vocals or soulful melodies present throughout, ‘Picaflor’ has something for all enjoyers of Afro House. It has all the hallmarks to become one of the genre’s shining stars for 2025 and wouldn't be out of place as the feature focus for all party playlists going forward.  

One of the biggest DJs to come out of Ukraine and now branching out more into the wider European scene, MalYar cements his status further as a true ‘one to watch’ with this release on Smash Deep. As a resident of the region’s largest radio station, Kiss FM Ukraine, his following has grown to a notable size over the past few years, leasing to millions of streams on Spotify alone. 

Always one to experiment and push the boundaries of his own sound, fellow Ukrainian artist Y:K is known as a musical architect. Making a name for himself thanks to his dynamic live performances and expert ability to read a crowd, a large audience is where Y:K feels most comfortable. Previously a resident for NRJ Ukraine, the next step in his career sees him focus on more original productions, such as ‘Picaflor’.
