Beginning with a golden age, warm, 90s hip-hop styled introduction reminiscent of early days of halftime, one is lulled into a vulnerable and open receptivity, before what was once familiar takes on a new sinister turn. Granulated wall of bass, double kick drum, spacious and all-enveloping  leading up to Malcuth and Facutum’s signature madman style BPM switch up. Maniacal and primal ripping groove, interspliced with various vocal callouts as the percussion becomes even more thunderous and insistent, with no sign of letting up all the way until the lo-fi comedown fade out.

From the outset, a thunderous leap into this unusual composition puts one ill at ease. Shrill synthesizers twist and swivel through into schizoid beat-patterned formations. The guitar and strings in the midsection create a golden ray of hope in an otherwise dark track. While an aggressive rage roars throughout this track, there are moments within that glisten and hint at the sorrow that lies deep beneath the surface of betrayal.

Malcuth & Facutum - Mimic

Malcuth & Facutum begin their album with ‘Closure’ - a cinematic soundtrack accompanied by a professionally shot music video. An abyssal opening is filled with a rising orchestral melody and a rhythmic procession, joined in by the ethereal vocal haunts of ‘Babi’. The central themes of change and transmutation found throughout ‘Alter’ are set into motion with this lyrical anthem.  Building an aching tension in one’s heart, as when one watches their love slip through their fingers. Contemplating the emptiness we feel from loss, and experiencing the tension which eventually resolves itself through breakdown.
