VacuaMoenia, dal latino “mura vuote”, è un atto sonoro identitario ed ecologico di rivoluzione dei significati profondi. La rivoluzione estetica di VacuaMoenia parte dai luoghi abbandonati dall’uomo e dal suono che essi producono: uno studio sui suoni già presenti e quelli che è possibile organizzare in loco attraverso la militanza escursionistica, la registrazione su campo e il contatto con il territorio.
VacuaMoenia inizia la sua azione nell’entroterra siciliano, andando a suonare i borghi abbandonati costruiti per popolare le aree rurali in Sicilia durante l’epoca fascista. Spinto dall’urbanesimo o dalle catastrofi naturali a dimenticare le campagne, l’uomo lascia alle sue spalle le mura che lo hanno accolto, lasciandole vuote di significato. I luoghi perdono le loro definizioni e diventano “Atmosfere”. Vacuamœnia riscopre queste atmosfere attraverso un’azione materica che propone un vuoto di natura densa, una scatola armonica. I materiali sono gli orchestrali, i percorsi e le strade sono partiture scritte sulla terra. Attraverso il tatto e gli altri sensi, ogni paesaggio sonoro diventa così luogo di suoni e strumento musicale in costruzione.

VacuaMoenia, from the latin “Empty Walls”, is an identitary and ecological sonic act aimed at the revolution of deeper meanings. Aesthetic revolution of VacuaMoenia starts from the places abandoned by man and the way they sound: a study of existing sounds and of those ones you can organize on the spot by hiking militancy, field-recording and the contact with the territory. VacuaMoenia starts its action in the Sicilian hinterland, going to play the abandoned villages built to populate rural areas in Sicily during the Fascist period. Pushed by urbanism or nature disasters to forget the countryside, man leaves behind the walls that welcomed him, leaving them empty of meaning. Places lose their definitions and become “Atmospheres”.Vacuamœnia rediscovers these atmospheres through materic action that suggests a vacuum of dense nature, a soundbox. Materials are the musicians, paths and streets are scores written on the ground. Through touch and other senses, each soundscape thus becomes a place of sounds and a work-in-progress musical instrument.
