This Comes With It” – is the melding of thoughts, experiences, sounds and melodies that complement the musical journey of trumpeter, songwriter, producer Guymon Ensley.   This project, Ensley’s fourth, is a slight departure from his straight ahead, classic jazz offerings.

The title, “This Comes With It,” lets you know that, musically, this is a gift from a power greater than the writer or performers.   When you listen to this project, feel and understand how intricately the music is created and presented with you, the listener, in mind.  There is a musical synergy that will move you and may cause some sporadic head bobbing and finger snapping.

Ensley is keeping with the industry trend by independent artists of releasing EPs of 6 to 7 tunes instead of a full 10 to 12 song project.  This enables him to delve into other genres of music to reach an eclectic audience of listeners.

After retiring from a successful career as a Law Enforcement Professional, trumpeter, songwriter Guymon Ensley began composing and performing full time. His musical journey started with him playing R&B, blues and big band jazz. However, armed with his experience and formal training, Guymon pursued his first love, JAZZ. He was referred to one of the most renowned musicians, educators and mentors, Sam Sanders and took on the challenge of improvisation. After many hours of rehearsal, repetition and concentration, he continued writing music that complemented his newly developed style.  
In 2001, he formed “GEQ,” the Guymon Ensley Quintet. This select group of musicians debuted to rave reviews in 2002 at the renowned Bakers Keyboard Lounge in Detroit Michigan. Guymon continued to enjoy success with his band after the release of their first CD titled Here Put This On in 2003. The album was re-released in 2009, on which two original bonus tracks were added. The band continued performing at many of the most prestigious venues throughout Michigan. Other performances include eight separate tours throughout the Caribbean Islands and Hawaii.
GEQ’s repertoire included many of Guymon’s original songs which he wrote with an emphasis on the strength of the band’s musicianship. GEQ is a high energy classic jazz ensemble that has been compared respectfully to the likes of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and the John Coltrane and Miles Davis ensembles. In 2006 & 2007, Guymon and his band were Detroit Music Award Nominees for OUTSTANDING MODERN JAZZ GROUP / ARTIST and Guy, for OUTSTANDING JAZZ COMPOSER.
In 2006, Ensley released a solo project, an extended play CD titled Meet Guymon Ensley, with three original songs and an intriguing arrangement of Grandma's Hands. Three singles followed, including a version of The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting Over An Open Fire) and his first vocal performance on, Where Am I Going With You. 
On August 14, 2014, Guymon released his fourth project, titled "This Comes With It." It's an eclectic collection of his contemporary jazz, R&B and baroque styled compositions. From a delicate but powerful opening number to a driving funk... to a sixties style doo wop, the EP bares selections that cross genre lines. Guymon used a number of noted Detroit area musicians on the EP and as it debuts a new background vocal group and the newly formed “Hoggy Horn Section”.

I have performed professionally since 1990. I have graced many stages for many reasons. I have performed Opera/Classical, Vocal Jazz, Horn Funk/Pop, Rock, Heavy Metal and Acoustic Solo and Duo.  I was a paid soloist for 5 years at Kirk In The Hills Church in Bloomfield Hills.  I also studied Music at Western and Michigan State University. I have performed, written and produced my own music as well as the music of others.

I have performed at such venues as Wharton Center for Performing Arts in Kalamazoo, De Voss Hall and The Intersection in Grand Rapids, Bo’s Brewery and Clutch Cargo’s in Pontiac, The Hayloft in Mt. Clemens, The New Way Bar in Ferndale, The Old Woodbridge Tavern in the warehouse district in Detroit, Rick’s American Café in East Lansing, Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor. Various coffee houses, open jams, local festivals and outings.

My styles and influences range from the less accessible art music to the more popular modern rock and pop. Songs in my current repertoire range from 1950’s (Elvis, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson), to the British Invasion/ Classic Rock from the 60’s and 70’s (Beatles, Stones, Cream, Zeppelin), to the New Wave Pop and Big Hair Rock styling of the 80’s ( John Cougar, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, The Cure and The Church) and finally the Grunge of the 90’s (STP,  Pearl Jam, Radiohead and Black Crowes) the Modern Pop and Rock of the 2000’s (Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Seether, Nickelback.)
