VALBY001 demonstrates Louf’s keen ear for growling analogue synthesizers and crunchy perpetual drum rhythms. Hiccup is a wintery club jam that follows an intertwining exchange between a vocal motif and a warm winding synth line, held down by a pounding drum workout. Dawn Loop provides a breath of early morning nostalgia, with a combination of dusty rattling percussion and hypnotic chords that swell and crackle recurrently.

We made it all the way to guest mix number 40, so it’s time for something a little special. 

After carving out a distinctive sound through a string of thoughtful productions, it’s safe to say @tomvalbyrotary has been on our radar for a while now. And after his label co-founder and partner in crime, @louisfitton, joined our series with a stunning contribution a couple of years back, it was only a matter of time before we signed him up too.

International Tribe is a weekly mix series hosted by Thris Tian.

This week’s International Tribe mix comes from London based record label Valby Rotary.

After developing their craft whilst studying in Leeds, Tom VR & Louf decided to start the imprint as an output for their own productions. After releasing their own music for the first three EPs, they expanded their roster to include like-minded producers, Jeigo and Mryn. Tom VR & Louf's tracks have gained support from many well-regarded DJs such as Midland, Gilles Peterson & George Fitzgerald.

The label aims to release left-field club-focused tracks with emotive elements. Their DJing follows a similar ethos, and this can be heard in their International Tribe mix.

The 4th entry in to our podcast series comes from the lovely @tomvalbyrotary
His track “Lost on Seahaven island”  appeared on the 4th Intergraded release (he made it off the island eventually just incase you were wondering). Its one of those records that gets lodged in your head and won’t leave anytime soon. Recalling classic Soul Capsule, its already soundtracked a lot of blissed out sunrise moments. 

Founder of the @valbyrotarylabel alongside Louf and Benito and a well known face on the Leeds scene where he got his raving credentials, his mix is a masterful balance of drums, out there sounds and beautiful melodies and has been on repeat listen since we first got it. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have!

Valby Rotary, a label co-founded and curated by Louf & Tom VR return with 006. Both founders have been making serious noise within the underground scene as of late, with highly acclaimed releases on Silver Bear Recordings & Midland's Graded respectively. 

We feature the title track of the most recent Valby EP: Infinity Room; a blissful insight into Louf’s delicate production style; the track offers tapered singing keys woven inbetween a raw and stripped back percussion set. Louf's ear for ambient tranquility has never been more on point.

PREMIERE: Louf - Infinity Room [Valby Rotary]

With the world in Covid-19 lockdown and the events industry stopped in its tracks, artists and online media like ourselves have been left financially vulnerable and, well...pretty bored. In an effort to alleviate both, Stamp The Wax launches Isolation Therapy, an emergency compilation built from scratch at lightning speed. 

We reached out to a bunch of friends who may need a hand, and gave them three days to make a track from scratch in isolation. 27 artists rose to the challenge and within a week from our first reach outs we were ready to go with masters (s/o Adam Scrimshire) and artwork (s/o Jess Ebsworth)⁣⁣. Final s/o to Aly Gilani for helping pull it all together. 

To provide artists with financial support as quickly as possible, royalty splits have been increased and accounting periods have been reduced to fortnightly during Coronavirus restrictions. Isolation Therapy will also provides much-needed funds for STW, having been hit heavily by the collapse of the events industry and postponement of all our media partnerships. If you can afford to buy the album, even if you don't like every track, it will be a massive support for independent journalism and go a long way to help us fight through this lockdown.⁣⁣
