DE-002 Death Domain - Ethidium Bromide 7"

Death Domain aka Adam Stroupe is a science nerd from Baltimore and, like me, wears it as a badge of honor.  Death domains are stretches of amino acids found in proteins that signal for apoptosis, programmed cell death.  To my ears, his sound is undoubtedly one of the most bewildering, disorienting yet magnetic and infectious slices of downright bleak takes on synth-based dance music. A one man all-live-analogue electronic ice machine (who is also behind the likes of 'SIDS' - Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). His sound is as cryptically raw as it gets - summoning the seminal Industrial/EBM sounds of the likes of early Cabaret Voltaire, Skinny Puppy, and The Normal.

"1986 darkwave, minimal electro band from Rochester, New York. The lineup was James Tabbi (vocals, acoustic guitar), Jeff Gallea (bass, drum programs, vocals, keyboard), Jack Schaefer (electric guitar) and Dan Brumley (synths, samples, vocoder, melodica). They released the “Bas Relief” LP in 1986, only 500 silkscreened and hand numbered copies of the record were made which are now extremely sought after by minimal synth enthusiasts. This gem has a wonderful low-tech warm driving synth sound that is infectious. The vocals are haunting and the bass lines remind of Joy Division.  Almost every song is killer dark post-punk or electronic synth wave. They seemed to take cues from Echo and the Bunnymen, early New Order, Fad Gadget, and Depeche Mode. Songs like Watching Trees, Tears and Cinnamon, Portugal, Ignorant Father, and Temporal deserve to be heard. Timeless." -Goutroy

"Looking For Love" is the work of long time collaborators DJ Rocca and Fred Ventura featuring a fresh sounding Original version, a pumping remix by Italo legends N.O.I.A. and a classic Italo rework from in-house team Italoconnection. 
The bonus track appearing on B2 is an old collaboration between Dimitri From Paris & DJ Rocca feat. Fred Ventura previously available only digitally on Gomma records. The release is strictly limited to 300 12” vinyls, 150 colored copies plus 150 classic black vinyls. Digital version will be released in September 2015, enjoy it!

Chateau Marmont’s story is half Stand By Me, half Solaris, half Logan’s Run and, yes, it doesn’t add up. They found themselves and each other through synthetic music, so bright and remote in its promises of infinity and eternal bliss, so hard, cold and disturbing when its outlook turns dystopian. And their name is resonant not of faded glories, awkward suicides, scuffed gold stars and velvet-roped junkies, but of widescreen romance, vintage melancholia and studied postures.

Last year, Chateau Marmont released their debut EP, Solar Apex, to much acclaim. Since then, they’ve remixed La Roux, Heartsrevolution, Ladyhawke, Röyksopp (after Poney Poney, Koko Von Napoo, Midnight Juggernauts...)--and themselves for Chromeo’s DJ Kicks. Co-produced former-teenybopper-turned-synth-diva Alizée’s new album. Had a song on Kitsuné Maison 7. Toured quite a bit. And still found the time to write NIBIRU, a wonderful second offering.

NIBIRU displays the same elegance that made Solar Apex such a classy ride but this time, Chateau Marmont’s pop leanings seem more restrained, the overall tone more Kraftwerkian, the record more muscular. This one is less poppy and more dancey, if you will. “One Hundred Realities”, “Monodrama”, “Heliochrome”, “Nibiru”: four tracks chronicling the ever-fascinating relationship between man and analog gear, featuring elegiac melodies, ultra-layered synth work and dramatic drum machines.
