I wrote this in 2006 after reading an article on some new finds of human remains that are 4 million years old in Ethiopia, I felt inspired to begin a series of tunes based on the idea that ancient people tell their stories every time an anthropologist writes of humankind's curious ways, then and now.

This is the first offering from this dig containing bare bones that I call Ultimately Fossil. (See Playlist for more.)

Unearthing Our Own

I wrote this in 2006 after reading an article on some new finds of human remains that are 4 million years old in Ethiopia, I felt inspired to begin a collection of tunes based on the idea that ancient people tell their stories every time an anthropologist writes of our curious ways, then and now.

After I began this series I saw a documentary about some even older human fossils found in the northwest African area called Chad. These date back six or seven million years. Many in the scientific community think this skull could be in the time period of when humans and apes diverged from one another.

So, I began thinking of an idealized picture of the first ape to stand up and walk for the rest of his or her (probably her 😉) life. The rest of the group were uncomfortably shocked and thought her to be behaving oddly. She didn't worry about it. She thought it natural. Soon another, inspired by her strength, stood and followed. Pretty soon there was a split in the population; those who walked upright and those who didn't. Each group went their own way. Total divergence occurred. Neither ever looked back.

This collection of bare bones is called Ultimately Fossil.

"Explorations"

"Explorations" consists of a series of moments where several clusters of sounds interact in various spontaneous ways. The resulting tapestry of textures and timbres shifts in tone and pitch, thus creating a vibrant soundscape where the imagination can build its own worlds. 

Guitar arpeggios, synthesizer effects, choirs, percussions, and richly textured pads combine to create a soundscape that conspires to excite the mind and engage the heart.

the 2018 was a very difficult year for me ...
understanding after so many years of having come to the end of a relationship was not easy to accept. I tried with all my strength to save something that escaped me like sand in my hands.
at the same time I poured all my interior experience into the creative act, as a source of salvation, into a cathartic act.
suspension between abyss and ecstasy ...
I was feverishly working on the realization of my first album.
project which, moreover, was interrupted due to the breakdown of my mac .. I lost several important information, such as sounds created with the help of different vst plugins .. and I still try to recover data etc .. to continue the project.
even today it is not easy for me to listen to this piece again.
it takes me back in time, and inevitably a few tears still line my face.
however, it is one of the few pieces accompanied by a text written at the time. I find it extraordinary how pain is able to take new shape through art.

Valhjim is a music composer with an eclectic approach to different genres: rock, pop, folk, New Age, and experimental electronic music. Greatly driven by imagination and poetic imagery, he combines multiple instrumental textures to fire the imagination of his listeners. 

His more experimental ambience and electronic music is built with layers of suggestive sound textures, rhythms, and melodic lines that stir the imagination into suggestive imagery and worlds unseen, true architectures of sound that open up limitless spaces to explore. Often Valhjim's melodies sail through genre thresholds, crossing over from one genre to another, from neo classcal to electronic, or from jazz to rock or new age.
