On March 14th, our collective hosted a virtual room at COMMON MULTIVERSE INITIATIVE - a week-long interactive festival curated by Currents.

Boasting a unique blend of masterful drum processing drenched in warm ambiance, Montreal-based @gonima found his niche sound early on. Honing influences from opposites on the electronic spectrum, he melds glitchy breakcore and emotive melodies with ease – his work is as demanding as it is lush. This all-original set includes recent work as well as unreleased material from him that further pushes our label and its overall mission to showcase forward-thinking dance music.

Vertigo

Multi 6-channel field recording of a Jacobs ladder also known as the (high voltage traveling arc) which is a device for producing a continuous train of large electrical sparks that rise upwards. The spark gap is formed by two wires, approximately vertical in position but gradually diverging from each other towards the top in a narrow V Shape. When high voltage is applied to the gap, a spark forms across the bottom of the wires where they are nearest each other, rapidly changing to an electric arc. The sparks can burn through thin paper and plastic and start fires, and contact with the exposed high voltage conductors can be lethal. For this recording I used a Sound Devices 744T/Mixpre-D with the Neumann RSM-191A/S kit microphone recording at the base of the transformer channels 1/2, then two DPA 4060 lav microphones channels 3/4 placed at far left and right positions beside the wire rods to capture a nice wide stereo image between the electrical arcs. The third stereo signal was from the Zoom H6 placed at the source of the the electrical sparks near the bottom of the wire rods. All files recorded at 24-bit-96khz. Free Download

inpsired by the theme for this competition 'Unfurnished Apartment' I used foley and sounds to reflect an empty space. The accompanying video was made to encompass this also. Footage gathered from a mobile phone used to create artifacts from the source and further databent/moshed with avidemux and hex editor and edited in hit film express.

After appearances in the labels Polish Juke and assemblyline, hæra and distope are back with a collaborative LP on BAS titled light pollution. Combining distope’s academic sound design background with hæra’s abstract vision of footwork, light pollution is an unusual album of juke grooves pulsating under ambient textures and dubbed out samples. While strongly rooted in footwork music, the record mostly avoids the genre’s usual dancefloor associations and instead offers a minimalist, meditative experience more suited for an introspective listening session than the club. light pollution is also the first and only longplaying release from the label in 2020.
