Night-time adventure edges over the horizon, the twinkling lights of a distant ferris wheel promise exhilaration and excitement, the city stretches out chaotic light trail patterns in fluorescent twilight dusk; motes of dust refracting glorious shades of vermillion across the changing night sky. The rich aural tapestry of sound in constant motion sees broken beats and rhythmic patterns shape sonic architecture as the jagged skyline motifs standing out against yielding aural textures. Overheard fragments of conversation create their own melodic flow in summer’s café culture; repetitive strains stutter and stretch in innovative and unexpected direction as the unknown quantity of a sprawling metropolis breathes into life via a voyage of invention.

In case you've missed this masterpiece 5 years ago we prepared the new re-issue expanded with 10 gorgeous remixes.

"As mentioned in the original write-up, Expanses was my homage to classic ambient and ambient techno albums of the past, albeit passed through the filter of dusty samples from old vinyl and classical records, the odd guitar melody, electronics and some soft rhythmic pulses. Since its release, the album has taken on a life of it's own and also unexpectedly reached many more ears than I could have ever expected through some particularly fortuitous circumstances. It's a slightly otherworldly, mysterious album within the TGK oeuvre that somehow continues to work it's magic. I am very excited to now have the album back in print with a bonus album of incredibly creative and diverse mixes from some very talented artists, each of whom weave their own unique soundworlds. I hope these sounds can bring some peaceful moments spent within your personal expanses, whether real and imagined".

This album was hugely inspired by the atmosphere of summer vacation, creaking seesaws, and solitude. I tried to transfer all these things in thoughtful soundscapes. 

It’s like a little journey to the silent countryside. This music was made for people who want to escape reality for some time and come back to the rhythm of a city with focused energy afterward. 

I started this recording creating the whole atmosphere and depth of the tracks using field recordings, and other noises of nature. It’s the reason why if you play this album sitting in your room with your eyes closed, you would be transferred to another world, where you feel the fragrances of wheat, cut-grass green and moist air. 

After creating the right atmosphere with field recordings, I was improvising with different musical instruments. I think that live improvisations are the key to an organic and textural sound: volume and airy pads play with the sounds of an acoustic guitar and muffled bells, sounding in the background. All these sounds comprise a beautiful symphony praising nature.
