Salima Bouaraour-Shadya is a multifaceted figure active in Montreal’s electronic music scene, journalism, and nightlife.

Producer, co-founder of Chez.Kito.Kat Records, and music journalist for a leading magazine, she has also served on various committees dedicated to rethinking and shaping nightlife culture in Montreal.

For a decade, she was active in Europe as a singer-songwriter and performer within an electroclash band.

Her recent release with French producer Shizuka was featured in UNDERSCOPE’s 2024 selection (Paris). She is also a member of the duo Safia Nihil with her longtime collaborator D.B.Y. Together, they recently released their debut EP, which premiered live at Mutek Festival last summer.

She has performed with numerous electro and techno collectives across Montreal’s underground scene and shared her mixes on Kanal Pompidou (Brussels), Radio Flouka (Paris), and Radio Nopal (Mexico City).

Her new EP, Spread Love, revisits the atmospheric drum’n’bass that shaped her youth, blending it with wider influences. Across two tracks, she explores the harmony between soft kicks, deep basslines, ethereal vocals, layered textures, and piano tones — deep, dreamy, and danceable.

Planet Intruder explores the darker, more atmospheric side of deep Drum & Bass, infused with a subtle sci-fi aura. Floating textures, distant signals and evolving soundscapes create a sense of cosmic tension and weightless motion, while the breaks roll calmly but relentlessly beneath the surface.

Instead of raw aggression, the track focuses on depth, mood and space, letting the groove breathe while the low end moves with controlled power. Planet Intruder is a journey through alien atmospheres, restrained energy and immersive pressure — perfect for late-night sessions and deep dancefloor moments.

The Canadian Government recently implemented a 200 m minimum distance for any ship in the area of Orcas. They also chopped the Chinook Salmon quota by 35%. The government is doing this because the Southern Resident Orca population only has 75 individuals (estimated) left. The Orca population relies heavily on Chinook Salmon for their diet and they won't diversify their diet.&nbsp; An article in the Toronto Star highlighted an important factor that face the Orca population: the Orcas are around ships 85% of the time.
